Vinomofo Wine Deals

They make a very nice Shiraz (in my opinion) so willing to take a risk at the price point. Plus splitting 2 cases by 4 so 6 each. Worst case the bottle will come will lots of gold stickers - always makes it look more expensive if you take it to a BBQ or give it as a gift!

Anyway, the HH review looks positive, the JH review was really odd - I don't think he liked it, but because it's won some awards, he gave it the benefit of the doubt. CM described it as quite tannic. JO gave it 94. Probably something that needs time, and it might work out, or not. $18/bot is probably a good deal for something that'll turn out good in 5+ years.

My friend and I are keen wine lovers and have agreed to try a bottle and if it doesn't meet our standards then we will return the remaining 11 bottles. We are usually aligned taste wise across most wines throughout the world. So it's basically a if it's good we split approach if not I return to the fo. I have a lot of faith tbh in this wine. The proof will be in the pudding!

There’s no mention of viognier (that I can find) but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a touch of it here. It matters not

It’s a wine of supreme drinkability and, simultaneously, class. Load up the glass and then load it up again. It tastes of boysenberry, black cherry, liquorice root and violets, with pepper spice and smoky oak having their two bob’s worth too. Fine tannin, inlaid with spice and fresh fruit, ripples from the mid-palate onwards. Such a juicy, floral, fine wine.

Safe to say he is a fan with 94 points. I would recommend getting a TWF subscription. Blows every other tasting note option out of the water in terms of content and updates. I also think the Wineosphere is still free on IOS, gives you access to all their tasting notes + more for free. (Don't know why they don't charge for it)

Sorry you'll have to join up to see it. I only mentioned the previous one as it was a slightly dissenting vote on the wine that was info omitted by VM.

Todays mof_ Secret Deal McLaren Vale Shiraz 2014 $40 $19.90 is Haselgrove Catkin Shiraz. Can anyone confirm?

Penfolds rolls out the barrels

Penfolds is releasing exclusive luxury wine worth almost $200,000, a barrel of 2015 blend of Barossa Valley shiraz and Coonawarra cabernet.
The barrel release is the first in Penfold’s 172-year history.
Penfolds’ Magill Estate winery in South Australia will house the barrel. Each of the specially commissioned French oak barrels, holding 252 litres of wine – the equivalent of 336 bottles – costs $198,000 or $590 per bottle.
Penfolds won’t reveal how many barrels will be offered in each vintage, but says the number is very small.
The wine maker started talking to private collectors about the first release before Christmas, and it has already been fully taken up.
Penfolds is now taking expressions of interest for the 2016 release.
CMO Simon Marton said the barrels will stay at the Magill Estate winery in Cellar 3, described as the oldest and most intimate cellar.
Marton said the barrels are expected to hold the wine for at least 18 months, after which it may be removed for bottling in a size chosen by the buyer.
“For the people who have signed up for one of these barrels, not only do they get the wine, they get a Penfolds experience – almost like a behind-closed-doors thing,” he said.
You too can be bent over a barrel. Or is that actually curved over a barrel.

Chateau la clapiere cru classe rose 2014 - Got some of this delivered last night. It's a very nice, delicate Provencal Rose. Yes berry fruitiness but no cloying sweetness or signs of too much skin contact either. I wouldn't have wanted to pay full tote, but a lovely wine for $20. Very civilised & grown-up Rose. Cheers!
