Vinomofo Wine Deals

I got an email from my them since telling me I had free freight but Shhhhhh don't tell anyone as not everyone was as lucky or some such trolop
Well that didn't work as a strategy did it! I'm starting to feel distinctly left out having made the majority of my on-line purchases from them for at least eighteen months, feel like a jilted lover

Look at that sneaky little f-er peaking out from the back right! What does that say for the mystery ones if the Berries made the list to show off...
Yep it does make you question their marketing tactics, I'd feel a bit cheated if I got that little blighter sullying my "elite" case!

Me too but I would happily swap the free shipping for the good 'ol days of really great deals..haven't bought anything for ages

That sounds unfortunate tgh, who's floating your wine boat these days in the wonderful world of on-line purchasing? Always keen to hear of some good leads...

I'm happy with these purchases from the FO in the last 12 months;
HH Gundagai S
FG brothers and sisters CS,
GL S & SV,
Twins GSM & C blend
Mother vine

Some of those slipped by me, the Glenlofty both shiraz and SV were very approachable drops, I do have a self-imposed price limit of sorts though, so have to pick the eyes out of more common fare ;)

Had a look at my purchases and I have bought a bit ……..

Everyone is different but I have just scoffed the H&J Layla PN and I am looking for more…., Otoh the much spruiked Rockferry Estate is just OK.

Tonight I'm quaffing a homeless and telling myself that it's OK and that I have "done good" in buying it.

I have not strayed too far from the 'fo … some super riesling from Chaffey Bros , and a good deal on some aged Marsanne from the roo.

However one looks at it .. the good ol days have gone.. success killed the golden goose

Oh well ….it was a lot of fun buying all that great wine

With the imminent expansion to new Zealand by the Fo and the introduction of fresh capital, hasta la vista l'australi is what you are intimating. In fact, like peter Costello on election night, AC called it first.

But do you really believe this when there is still a stack of wine out there ? Add postage, and it becomes 75c extra. I feel ripped , not quite like my kids's jeans, but I jest of course. It's Friday.

So how can you say their business model here can't work anymore when they sell out of many wines when a bin end sale comes out?

I would love to hear from anyone who can enhance my perspectives in this matter.

Cheerio and happy drinking over the weekend folks.

um.. I'm not saying that the 'fo model has not worked.. clearly it has, and still does.
If you are following the 'fo offers now , and partook of the original offers, you might share my retrospective sadness.. :-)

We are just round the corner from Sirromet, and greatly enjoy having a really good restaurant close by (Lurleens).
Otoh the Sirromet wines offered are just an embarrassment ( we usually just drink champers).

Imagine my surprise to read today that they are busily selling tanker loads of "premium" plonk into China.
Beats me …. either they are conning us .. or the Chinese.
I'm having dinner in the Barrel room next week and this question is top of my list .

Bought this stuff I've been happy with over the past 12 months. That said, definite drop-off in the volume of attractive deals. Size is getting to VM, as well as a few wineries getting a bit more leary of dealing with them I guess:

With the imminent expansion to new Zealand by the Fo and the introduction of fresh capital, hasta la vista l'australi is what you are intimating. In fact, like peter Costello on election night, AC called it first.

Looking back at what I've read of the original days of VM, they had producers like Blue Poles etc. on offer. Those smaller, boutique, cult shops just can't supply enough plonk for the size of VM, and they are justifiably wary of destroying their loyal direct customer base if they offer widespread discounted stuff.

But do you really believe this when there is still a stack of wine out there ? Todays finance section in the Hun paper tells us Asia is buying up more plonk, with an average under six bucks a bot, per litre mof_s, of bottled wine. **** we are getting robbed at 8.90 buying the glenlofty. Add postage, and it becomes 75c extra. I feel ripped , not quite like my kids's jeans, but I jest of course. It's Friday.

Some would be unbottled bulk wine (much cheaper to ship than in bottles). There's also local taxes to consider. And those prices are export, before wholesale and retail mark-ups. And what is called "premium" isn't really, for the most part.

The SV should be available.
Why not ring and ask.
Sorry I'm probaly being a bit obtuse, the only ones amongst the list that I'd had a case of were the two from Glenlofty and I have seen the SV on offer again buttttt I'm always on the look out for something different which is occasionally stupid of me (bird in the hand philosophy) I guess that's the tricky aspect of the "Fo experience, I mostly get drawn in by the thrill of the hunt for the contraband deal but it often means that it's a one-off scenario leaving me wishing either that I'd bought a couple of cases or hadn't bought any at all...

I tend to agree with AC - I can't see VM passing on the Halliday ratings when they're available. That would only happen if the winery had veto on the marketing copy and genuinely thought that it could remain a mystery. Seems unlikely.

Very interesting price list you posted there though. Who would've thought that it would cost $25.22 to send a case of wine to Brisbane from the Clare, but only $57 to send it to Antarctica?!

And although it might not be that this wine is that one, it also reminds me of one of the more dishonest things VM does in their marketing: to quote the single-bottle price from the winery, when the winery gives a discount for mixed dozens, even while requiring that you buy a straight dozen. No they're not charging full price, but apples-to-apples, they should quote the winery's dozen price as the notional RRP if they're only selling dozens themselves.

Bought this stuff I've been happy with over the past 12 months. That said, definite drop-off in the volume of attractive deals. Size is getting to VM, as well as a few wineries getting a bit more leary of dealing with them I guess:
Wow, I've omitted the list for obvious reasons but It's obvious that you're in a different league to me (and most of my associates) I've been plumbing the 'Fo depths seeking that most elusive beast a great wine at a bargain basement price-two seemingly incompatible concepts....

I think fewer and fewer wineries are willing to sell decent plonk to VM at absolute rock bottom prices. Probably a different story when VM was small, but now it's hundreds of thousand of buyers, anyone who sells via VM at cheap prices is going to lose their ability to charge anything near full-price ever again. Plus those wineries will probably have trouble selling via the retail chains too - who's going to stock stuff at $30/bot when it's also offered on VM for $10/bot? Unless you're a Wynns/Wolf Blass/Lindemans/etc where sales through VM are still a small % of your overall sales. The better value will be in the more expensively priced wines on VM - not cheap - maybe $20-30/bot - but not cheap enough to destroy the pricing power of the brand, and in any case, no one was paying the full $50-60/bot RRP price in the first place.

More and more we'll see stuff that can't be shifted from the "known" producers, and stuff (that might be good, or not) from unknown up-and-coming producers. Or maybe VM can start tapping into overseas wines that don't have much mass market reach into Aus.

I disagree with the logic. It's different groups of buyers VM are appealing to, and the fact that you're now seeing larger producers like Wolf Blass on VM tell me that it's more the value of multiple marketing channels to producers rather than actually costing them revenue. You may not agree, but I simply think it's VM getting lazy...they've built a larger customer base and think they can flog lesser wine at better margins for their bottom line.

It's certainly an interesting issue that merits fleshing out. I virtually never buy wine from a bricks and mortar establishment these days after having discovered the joys (and not infrequently sorrows) of on-line retailing. There is something obviously appealing about a company like the 'Fo that presents itself as a kind of hipster alternative to GWD et al and I've fallen for it hook line and sinker, however, they need to be able to walk the walk and not just talk the talk when it comes to their marketing. I really resent trotting off to the local BWS or the like and paying $20-25 for a wine that can be had for less than half that on-line and I particularly like accessing wines (and wineries) that the hoi poloi have never heard of that churn out superb gear. But are they going to kill the goose that laid the golden egg? The very thing that sets VM apart is the chance of uncovering something splendid, marked down heavily and is little-known but if they fall into the trap of flogging run-of-the-mill stuff like the Little Berries then I'm likely to vote with my feet...
