Vinomofo Wine Deals

The better value will be in the more expensively priced wines on VM - not cheap - maybe $20-30/bot - but not cheap enough to destroy the pricing power of the brand, and in any case, no one was paying the full $50-60/bot RRP price in the first place.

And therein lies the conundrum, I would feel absolutely cheated if I HAD paid $50-60 a bottle for some of the wines knocked down by VM, are Oz wines now becoming over-priced (and naturally I'm not talking about Yellowtail here) and over-hyped despite the domestic wine-lake that must surely be brimming over?

There has been a lot of talk about the merits of the Fo, so sod it here are my two pennies, and I am well aware people may disagree and that is fine of course.

The Fo has been successful because they offered the consumer something different and exciting. They have introduced us to a lot of hidden gems and put some smaller producers on the map. They stand by their products selected and offer a very generous returns policy. That being said, everyone has different tastes and in the pursuit of growth they need to expand their inventory levels. Whilst regular users will have access to more wines, it also is likely that more experienced wine drinkers are going to have access to wines that are not quite their style. We have our favourites and like what we like.

You really want to try a particular wine/style but don't want to pay full price. Their returns policy is very generous, if it continually gets abused because people are just lumping in on every black market that comes along to try something different then returning the remaining [5] a bottle later, then the policy will get taken away.

I have said it before, but the end user really should take some responsibility. You win some, you lose some.

Mostly agree with you BUT people are repeatedly jumping on the contraband and black market deals precisely because VM is almost daring you not to, whipping up the hyperbole a few more notches (coupled with the spectre of the ticking doomsday clock) so that you feel compelled to try whats on offer, if they pulled back a bit on the spin and jettisoned some of the more questionable "bargains" then the return rate wouldn't be so high IMHO....

Just returned my first time, Star Lane Sangiovese 2012. Happy to take a credit and try something else, so ultimately they still get my money...

I too found it seriously overpriced, a very thin style with no great fruit definition, so disappointing compared to their Shiraz 2013 which was lovely. Oh well, sometimes a free bottle is worth what is cost you.

I have just signed up. Any suggestions from the current offerings? I'm not an expert on wine so grateful for any suggestions across any variety - though a mild preference toward a pinot noir or shiraz.

Going through my Vinomofo purchases choosing a bot to go with Thai tonight, I could only think of Katy and the fact that I remember that she missed out on the Iron maiden Tour. What a bummer, however, I have managed to find a video clip of probably their best song - RTTH - you'll know it if you've only heard one song. Please enjoy Katy and hasn't Bruce changed ! Must be all that lack of oxygen at 30000 feet. Enjoy.

I hope you used someone's referral to give each party $25 credit - I see a number have purchased this Shiraz - it is not a cheap one though.

The Mad Hatter is on

Seppelt Chalambar is always good value.
The McLaren Vale 2013 Shiraz $49 -> $24.50 is the Hewitson Mad Hatter, which was generally well received when they offered the 2012 last year.

VM were also offering the Mitolo Savitar 2006 as a secret deal ($100 -> $45). Not up at the moment, but will probably come back in the next week if you wait. That's definitely still a huge, big, shiraz, if you like that style.

Sorry mate, disagree. You as the end buyer are avoiding responsibility based on the power of advertising. Are you 12?

Their mixed packs these days are 1 - 2 good wines with a bunch of shiite thrown in. How many packs did Think Outside get thrown into? How many packs will the Berries and new Cantinere make it into? I'm been much more selective with VM purchases the past 6 months. Now that they have gained the customer base they've lowered their standards significantly...flog whatever they can for a dollar. Remember this little beaut of a mixed case? I'm not counting on something similar every again...

RRV, your point is a bit lost on me. The VM policy is here: https://vinomofo.com/returns . That's a part of the sale contract; people enter into it in the knowledge that it is. What are you "responsible" for? You're responsible for keeping the wine if you enjoy it. They specifically say that if you are not 100% happy then you can return the wine. "Abuse" of the policy would be if you enjoyed it but you suddenly realised you needed the cash more than the rest of the wine and returned it for that reason. I suspect that overall, more people will want to avoid the logistical hassle of doing the return if the wine they get is something they're still willing to quaff but just a bit disappointed in, and VM will sell a lot more cases simply because the policy is there. In other words, I doubt - however many people you see here blithely returning 11's - that everybody is doing so. So I think your concerns are unfounded too. Just my 2c of course.

I'm pretty sure they'd want even more customers if they could get them. Except wineries won't give them the wine at the price they want.

You didn't mention the case of
1 x Serrat Shiraz Voignier 2014
1 x Bleasdale Iron Duke 2012
1 x Kaesler WOMS 2010
1 x Paxton Jones Block 2012
1 x Punch Lance's Vineyard Pinot Noir Close Planted 2012
1 x Yarra Yerring Dry Red #2 2012
Now that was a bargain case. The Serrat alone is going for $200+ these days.

But in any case, VM used to so many awesome wines - Blue Poles Allouran, Forest Hill Block 9, Jamsheed Syrah etc. which I suspect we'll never see again, simply because those producers are too small to supply the customer base. VM is becoming more like Dan Murphys.

Really? I'm all for buyer beware, but I also expect the description to match the wine - which it so often doesn't. Part of the reason several people are on this forum are to get the insights into the wine as we can't trust VM. That's not ok IMHO and they can expect the return policy to be widely used where they engage with the consumer this way. If you don't think this happens - see what your broker tries to unload on you, no doubt throwing in countless positive adjectives to 'sell' the wine

I personally haven't returned much but nor would I begrudge someone for doing so. I probably also wouldn't insult others on the forum for doing so and having a different view...

Relax people; grab a glass of wine and look at it this way if the advertising is too slick its take it with a grain of salt. Would you buy a used car with loads of hype? Let the esteemed members help you; some wine will be great; some good and some not so good and we dont all have the same taste buds. Cheers.

Bought this stuff I've been happy with over the past 12 months. That said, definite drop-off in the volume of attractive deals. Size is getting to VM, as well as a few wineries getting a bit more leary of dealing with them I guess:
