Vinomofo Wine Deals

Gents and Ladies, any idea what this is?

https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/mof_-secret-deal-shiraz-2012
When they first put this out on July 31 the ad said Fo debutant. Not totally sure on this but maybe Mcguigan Farms Shiraz. About 4 months ago C----ka were pushing it through their brokers for the same.

Farms is $75 RRP.

This is Handpicked Wines Barossa Collection

That's a big jump on the Farms.
Got the 2011 only recently for $22 from WM.

I know this is going to land me in hot water but I have rarely had a McGuigan red that has knocked my socks off, sure I'm talking about their lower tier stuff but I tell it how I find it! It would want to be a complete ball-tearer for 100 bills....

sold out what a bargain
Not if it tastes like barnyard connivances and has the body of a two day old lamb, smelling like a musty saddle. All that in the first three seconds as well.

I must admit my farms landed for $18, but the untouched six lie like sardines in a nice environment espousing to be talked about on the Nice wines thread rather that the Terrible Wines I have returned thread.

Now for the compulsive shoppers, who said this....

It's addictive. I haven't even try all the wines that arrived before "scratching the itch" again.
Cannot resist the urge to bag a bargain.

You're not alone.

A friend from Sydney lobbed in a few weeks ago with a magnum of McGuigan The Shortlist Cab Sav 2011 and I felt a shudder of anticipation run down my spine, not of pleasure but of dread! We cracked it on a night where there were enough non-wine afficianados around for a dinner party to partake and most of it had gone by daybreak but after a half glass I wasn't one of those lining up for more-it's cough!

Cannot say I have had a Mcguigans red or white that I would talk about I would prefer a coffee if thats all the wine that was available at the time.

So it's not just me! That's a relief Rug, I don't like slagging off producers like McGuigan without good reason but I've yet to try a red or white from them that was anything but average and lacklustre :-|

McGuigan have traditionally produced the low end stuff. The Farms and Philosophy labels are part of a new-ish drive to start moving into the higher-end market.

Wozza gave the 2012 Farms a good wrap, and I'd happily trust his review.

2011 Cabernet Shortlist - JH have it an 89. Probably not surprising that it was bad, given it was a 2011 vintage...

Speaking of McGuigan, I had the Shortlist '12 Shiraz from VM last year. I thought it was good wine, and for $12+ was a good bargain.

Yes, bought this several times from VM and Wine Market, mostly for inclusion in quaffer packs for friends, but happy to drink it myself.

I have no doubt AC that they are capable of knocking out a really good wine but I have yet to try one. If a $100 wine isn't going to be nothing short of amazing then what is? As far as the Shortlist goes, I would admit wholeheartedly that I am a committed Shiraz drinker and often find Cab Sav just doesn't quite cut it for me so there is a degree of personal bias and point taken, 2011 wasn't a good year in the majority of vineyards (I seldom buy wines from 2011 for that very reason-too hit and miss) I still stand by my judgement. If JH has given this 89 points then who am I to disagree, but it wouldn't be the score i would award that's for sure!

Maybe the variety and the year of vintage made all the difference Kjav but there's so much wine out there discounted on-line at that price point I would still probably pass...

Fair dues but again it was the 2011 and Cab Sav that I was basing my latest views on and that only confirmed the previous experiences I had had with McGuigan.

On another note, does anyone have any idea what this 2014 Shiraz might be? https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/black-market-deal-shiraz-2014-dec664b0?

A JH89 is a pretty bad score - I'm trying to say he agrees with you... :)
