Vinomofo Wine Deals

i concur Admel....you are talking with a true bargain hunter but one who is very discerning about their wine. Of course i wasnt talking about anyone in particular, but it seems that when you buy a wine for twelve bucks that normally is about twenty five, how on earth can you complain.....and whilst that does not refer to you, i got the idea that people expect to make silk purses out of sows ears every time. Vinomofo is a great site, as are the others, and i love them. In fact, i just ordered their Christmas pack a few minutes ago. Diversity in a mixed case is a wonderful thing. I am a bit of a technological luddite here so i don't really know about my post that has disapppeared, but what i attempted to do before lunch this morning was post a 93 point review from nicks cellars about a schild 2012 shiraz....i found out since i have posted less than 10 times that i couldn't add any links - the review was very good for the product and you couldn't go wrong....one thing that is true is the comment on the fo's website that says this is all a bit fun and addictive. In my situation, no more purchases after jan 1...i have plenty. cheers mate.

seems to me that folks want a grange for the price of a pepperjack on this site.....it just doesnt happen.......how many of you have spent forty clams on a wine regularly??

How bizarre. Why is it relevant how much anyone regularly pays for a single bottle?

it's all about appreciation of value.

But of course value and cost are not one and the same. While I'm not trying to suggest that a $12 wine is as good as a Grange or a top end Torbreck there are plenty of $20 - $30 that are punching well above their weight (and even some $15 wines) and equally a number of $40 to $50 wines that frankly just rely on hype and the winemakers reputation and IMO don't offer that value.

Equally a wine is not good value just because it's 50-60% off if the original RRP was just wishful thinking by the winemaker or marketer!

Totally true burmans. Vinomofo are at least one site that offers incredible deals on their offerings, so much so that i am amazed how they do it. I believe it costs no more than five dollars including the bottle and the oak barrels when used over a few years to make a wine. Just about any wine ! So their is a lot of margin in this sort of production especially in larger economies of scale. Thats how Andre and Justin - whom I have never met but who continually make me feel good with their business model and their product - are keeping it real and honest. This isn't graysonline with mundane product being peddled amongst some truly great finds, this is small business having a crack to the betterment of you and I. Last night three of us shared the 2010 Heathcote Shiraz,92points,5star red producer that the mof_s put in their Black Market pack 6.0 two weeks ago. This 12 pack came in at $134 a case, including this one, which if you do some homework retails for about $65. And it's magnificent. And for 12 clams, in my opinion, insane. But excess stock lying around has to be sold so a great deal is passed on. Once again, low cost to make this and we all win. I put my hand up also for the 12 pack of premium 95plus thinking I will never be able to get these wines at about $13.50 each. Such is the joy of the fo, and probably a few other sites as well, but come january 1, I'm backing off for 8 months. No more purchasing till two of my favourites come out - Lake Breezes bernoota and Thorn Clarke Shotfire Quartage. Enjoy !!

Of course success is killing the quality and frequency of the really great deals.
Lots more black market "lucky dips" this year.
As they have very successfully ramped up the customer base , their capacity to find enough quality stock must diminish.
Will they soon be just another high volume spruiker selling cheap plonk because thats where sufficient quantity is available to meet high volume sales?
It's been a great ride though…...

It has expired.

RRP: $240 ($20 per bottle)
Price: $99 ($8.25 per bottle)

Assuming it was the Schild, Their 2011 Shiraz was poor IMHO... 2011 was a bad year in the Barossa due to weather, and The Schild Shiraz was quite average.

2012 might be better, haven't tasted it.
I bought a case when it was on the "Contraband" block in October.

Using a $25 referral it was not bad value at $7 per bottle delivered - I would not pay more than $15 for it though.
99% sure the contraband shiraz is the 2012 vintage of Schild Estate Shiraz. It was a great deal last year for the 2011 at $6, i hope the better vintage makes this an equally good deal
It is indeed the 'Schild' -...

Without trying to be contrary, I would like to add my bit to the $5 cost of just about any wine comment.

Older vines cannot be machine harvested, so have to be hand picked.
Premium wines may be cellared for a few years before release, effectively incurring 'rent'.
There is a WET tax 29%.
Smaller wineries will not have the economies of scale of the larger producers.

Of course I accept that the producer will charge what they believe the market can afford.

and how is the Barossan blend Dr Ralph?? As it turns, its one of the 12 in the 6.0 package so i would be keen on your review.

I agree that Vinomofo has lost a lot of the "fun" from the early days, and the quality of the offering has become highly variable as a result of their rapid growth.

They seem to be operating much more as a profit-seeking business now than they were in the early days.

Having said they, they still have great deals from time to time, just you need to be more "picky".

I'm sick of being spammed with countless emails offering fourth rate rubbish. Have unsubscribed and will keep an eye on this thread for any rare winners that might pop-up.

The BLACK MARKET DEAL Bordeaux Blend 2012 listed today for $7.50 a bottle (down from $25) and described as:

"If you’ve got roast beef, slow-cooked lamb or herb-stuffed chook on the Christmas menu this year, we’ve got the perfect wine to make your day that much merrier. Plus, at only $7.50 a bottle, consider this our early gift to you.

Just as it’s never too premature for the big retail stores to start putting up Christmas decor (in August...) - we think it's fair to say that it’s definitely not too early to get your Christmas wine-list ready. A time to give, this Barossa Bordeaux blend was definitely made for sharing. Crafted by a famous 5 red star winery (that will be well-known to your family and friends), this is a medium to full-bodied powerhouse red that's brooding with notes of blackcurrant, briary fruit, tobacco and black olives, and one that impresses with lip-smacking Christmas cake spices, lovely textured tannins and a succulent, savoury finish...

Now, if you could please excuse us, we're off to find some food and wine because we've self-inflicted simultaneous feelings of hunger and thirst. "

Appears to be the Maverick Twins that was on a few weeks ago.

Maverick is a quality producer. Definitely recommend at that price.
