Vinomofo Wine Deals

Interestingly, the larger ad says 2012, the deal ad says 2013.....as mentioned by the affers, the fo have been looser than an aussie with bali belly for quite a while now, and whilst this problem would have been remedied with natural cork, most botts these days are stelvins and that would hurt.

But it's something from Maverick I think.

How's the Known Pleasure? I have a case but haven't cracked one yet. I'm having a '12 Ara Block M36 Pinot tonigh. Took almost an hour to open in the decanter and not sure I'm convinced just yet. There was a strong brine and sulfur smell that took a long time to settle, I found it a bit of an assault on the senses, or perhaps that was the scotches earlier..
Sorry for the delay jrod(xmas and all that) the Known Pleasure was very good and became more expressive both to the nose and in the mouth as the night went on ( overall time in decanter was 8 hours)lots of dark fruit and some spice. Tannins were medium but as I am no wine expert it seemed more like the fruit was in charge;not overpowering just very enjoyable a great experience. As I have a few cases (thankfully) I am going to let the rest sleep. I will open one every year to see how it is evolving; I definitely think this will be a ripper in 5 plus years if you can wait. Cheers

Hey mof_s,

For my first post I put it out there that the following Black Market deal may be the 2015 Serafino Sharktooth Shiraz. RRP, past critic scores match as well as the tasting notes. Sadly the spiel is a funny parody of a Christmas Jingle but does little to give away the wine. Apologies of course if this has been discovered already- please just tell me the thread number. Cheers lads.

Thanks Rug. Wonder how it compares to their squid ink. I'll try both one day.

FWIW, the '12 Ara Block took a good 90+ mins in the decanter but did totally evolve. I'm not used to giving pinots a good decant, but then again I'm no wine somm either. I just know what I like and dislike and probably shows it needs more time. Cheers

A couple of weeks ago I received a $25 credit, followed by a further $10 credit yesterday. And since they were stackable I took advantage of today's free delivery offer to order a nice mixed case of sauvies! :)

Hi jrod; Known Pleasure was made by Innocent Bystander. Squid Ink is from McLaren Vale associates who made the Legacy for the FO and a good wine. The 2012 Giant Squid Ink is a nice wine but way overpriced@ $150.00 per bottle for what it is. It too needs time in the decanter and in the cellar. IMHO the Known Pleasure is a much better wine. Thanks for the advice on the 12 Ara Block. My time for the decanter was from opening; waiting for a couple of hours and the consumption. Advice and opinions are great but in the end as you say it comes down to what you like and dislike. Cheers

Thanks Rug, ahh yes, bit of a brain fart. I have both known pleasure and legacy side by side in my wine room. Enjoy the festive season and thanks for the heads up; I might try a KP next week.

My guess would be [h=1]2015 Curtis Family Vineyards Cavaliere Shiraz[/h]Matches on RRP, alcohol, cork seal (diam actually), the 2010 and 2013 scored 94 in the Wine Companion https://www.winedirect.com.au/curtis-family-vineyards-cavaliere-shiraz .

Cheers RedBigot and OzShiraz- I agree- reason being is despite the same RRP and points for said years I think Vinomofo would have put the highest received points (ie 96 for Sharktooth) for mystery wine instead of the 94 points for 2010 and 2013. If it was the Sharktooth they would have 100% put the 96 points for the 2012. Vinomofo marketing strategy dictates as much lol. As I haven't tried any Curtis Family and am unsure of the winemaking style I will let that one slide.

I received a couple of bottles of the 2015 Cavaliere in a mixed dozen from Wine Direct recently and here are my thoughts. Quite a closed, tight nose upon opening, decanted and left to its own devices the aromas are still a bit fugitive even though the alcohol wafts up quite convincingly. Two or three hours later and it has opened up a tad but the palate is equally a bit closed, certainly there are dark plums hovering under the radar and oak (American?) but not lashings of complexity. Fast forward another two days to revisit the last of the bottle and the wine has finally spread it's wings and the soft plummy notes are much more evident but my gut feeling is that I've opened this bottle perhaps 3-4 years prematurely, I've still got another one lurking somewhere so it will be laid down and given another trial in the fulness of time, verdict: a quality wine but definitely not in the "drink now" category.....cheers, W&D

I also bought the 2014 The Lear and don't expect to try one for quite a while. Has anyone whose tried the '14 or a previous vintage any idea when best to tackle one?

From a tasting set in February 2016:
Kalleske Greenock Shiraz 2014 14.5% $35 Dark plums, chocolate and oak on the nose, big firm palate with plenty of nicely ripe fruit, oaky, good but prominent tannins, long finish, good one. Group rank 1 also, well ahead of the rest.
Haselgrove The Lear McLaren Vale Shiraz 2014 14.5% $30 (VM) - dark, earthy nose, not as big or full on the palate as the Kalleske, more restained mid-palate, good fine tannin backbone, just overshadowed by the Kalleske which was just before it in the flight. Group equal #2.

It depends how mature you like your wines, but I'll be drinking the Lear over the next 5 years, not one I'd leave for 10.
