It had a fair following in the USA amongst followers of the likes of Robert Parker in the heyday of big syrupy Aus reds.
His "next door" neighbour is Chris Ringland.
According to Hobbs website it would be the Gregor. In previous reviews it states Robert Parker gave the 2012 97 points. Just as Parker likes them 15.4% alcohol. Cheers

The 97 points by parker for the 2012 looks right but the 100+ year old vines looks more like the 1905, VM confusion.
Note no alcohol % from VM.
The Gregor was secret wine no 85 JD cellars @ $59.10 recently and I bought 6 but haven't tried any, so cant give any feedback. The write up by JD was very impressive though.
 
Thisan absolute monster (15.8% alcohol).....the full carnival attraction. It’ssyrupy and lithely liqueur-like in texture, but not too fat or unctuous. If youdrink it within three days of opening, treat it like vintage port, and have itwith hard cheese and walnuts.
After three days, it deserves a perfectly aged steak. Or leave the cork in, andgive it twenty years’ under the stairs.
Personally...I'll be leaving mine to breath for a week, letting it develop intoa hedonistic full bodied Barossa Shiraz...sublime.

VM says the producer has 100+ yo vines, not specifically that it goes into this wine.

I have the Hobbs 2003 Limited Edition shiraz and the back label said "Hand picked from vines planted nearly a century ago".
After another decade must be over 100 years old by now. :D

[h=1]2013 Gregor [/h]The fruit for our Gregor Shiraz is sourced from Shiraz vines planted in 1988 on our home block high in the Barossa Ranges. The soils up here are rocky, yellow podzolic matter over clays and we utilise double wire trellising in our vineyard.

Us doubters were confused by the slight of hand by VM.

Any ideas on todays Black Market Pinot?

I have no idea, I'm not saying anything other than Red Hill matches, and I am not putting this forward as a guess. I'm just musing ;)

Nice wines I have had - Steady would love this and the pinot fans who told me last year. paringa estate pe 2015....simply devine. Not in a glenn milstead you think youre a man type of divine, but a bit of cherry, a bit of pepper, a bit of cinnamon, spice, length and so Moorish. My friend and I who enjoyed it gave it at least a 9/10.

It would be a coincidence if this was a Paringa Estate, and I would almost have to boom after beefarmer's recommendation....

Paringa has no $52 wines on their website. The estate is closest at $50 but the 2016 is not up on the website. So may not be that.

Potentially the Monto Alto Estate ... again thought only 50% on the website. Can't seem to find any of the technical details on the website though.
