While i think the Twins are a standout i don't mind the Schild Estate GSM (Offered back in July 15)
i have not tried mine yet but a coworker was happy with the Hasslegrove Switch GSM (offered NOV/Dec 15)

Agree that this is a wine that really does need decanting, and improves dramatically with it. Much better integrated after a bit of air

That may help explain things. I had decanted mine for 3 hours before tasting.

Wozza, are you any chance a super-taster? I know taste is a very personal and subjective thing, but from my own experiences I found the use of oak to be quite restrained and the taste of cedar quite subtle. Maybe my own tastes are marred, or at least framed, by the over-oaked monsters from the late 90's. I do agree about the sweetness though, I put that down to the vibrancy of the fruit.

I am more impressed Wozza didnt like Hannah's Swing and rated 92 and enjoyed the CW Ferguson at 93 points!

Agree taste is personal, which is one reason why this forum is enjoyable!

2 Margaret River Cab Sauv's up as Black Market Deals at the moment. One 2013 ($11.90 bottle), one 2014 ($9.90 bottle). Just picking up an everyday drinker. Any tips on these ones?

Pretty sure capel vale cellar exclusive (99% certain on the 2014), and I think the 2013 is also. I have both and quite happy with them, though the 2013 is my pick to drink now.

I agree with all these and rhodges verdict on the Ulithorne. Haselgrove Switch would probably be my preferred alternative.

On the commute home yesterday evening, I actually thought I had been a bit harsh, so bumped the Swing up to a Wozza 93! And funny you should mention the CW Ferguson. Because I bumped up the Swing to the same score as the CW Ferguson as I thought they were comparable quality wines (obviously noting they have their differences and strengths and weaknesses).

On the does Wozza like it or not like it front. I have two pet hates that will put a wine in the do not like it camp. The worst is high alcohol content. The other is the over use of oak, especially in Reds and in particular if a sweet vanilla taste dominates the fruit. I'm getting too old for hangovers, so really don't like wines much higher than 14% ABV. For the oak, I have never been a fan of the commercial tasting Red (the pubs and High Street are full of them). I prefer the oak to support not lead the taste party. That said, I have come to appreciate stronger oak influences will be there with the bigger wines that are built to be drunk after some cellaring.

Looks like I missed a crucial trick in not decanting the Swing. Moral of the story: listen to DBs tasting notes over mine! He's more considerate to the wine and more discerning with his notes. DB was super impressive at the January wine dinner in Sydney. He's got a great nose for his wines. And, you can meet DB and me if you intend to come to the Cabernet wine dinner in Sydney in May!!

And I totally agree with you, RRV. I really like to hear the personal opinions of others, and love the fact people share different opinions on this forum. The forum is much richer and the better for it. Long may it continue ...

Yes that is the Ulithorne.

The only thing I can fault with this restock is that it was obviously for export because its now cork closure, which now annoys me a tad.

To quote myself:
I opened up another bottle of it last night and it's very good, its light, and easy to drink. Needs half an hour to open up properly, the write up is pretty spot on, it calls it 'pretty' which is defiantly how I would describe it.

I would add to that after a few more opened at my place that it's very moorish...it's very light so it feels like you can drink it all night (but I am normally reminded when the alarm goes off at 5am that probably wasn't the best idea...)

EDIT: It's just been pulled for sale, but after a call from my broker yesterday there is still quite a bit left, give them a call if you want to purchase.

Stop it, I'm blushing. But I do have the man-flu at the moment, so maybe that's got something to do with it.

What do they say, opinions are like a-holes, everyone's got one. I'm sometimes just a little more vocal in expressing mine. But that doesn't make it any better than yours or anybody elses. Sometimes I can get a little effusive in my comments. When a wine puts a big smile on your face it's difficult to be totally objective.nI would recommend that people read all of our tasting notes (especially yours Wozza), because the objective truth invariably lives somewhere between the lines.

And yes, do come along and meet us all at the dinner in May. Should be a great night if the first was anything to go by.

I am glad that my home internet has just been reconnected after 'technical issues' on 31st march. Frustration, mood swings, anger, disappointment, relief then more disappointment then more anger, saint anger kept me calm thanks to hetfield, and eventually today, it's on. So was my punitive claim for loss and a shyzen load of suffering. All settled to my satisfaction. It's not the problem that's the problem, it's how you deal with the problem that's the problem. An old saying first mentioned decades ago by a lady in a wheelchair.

My only problem now is going back over many, many,many pages of aff so I can print off tasting notes that many of you wrote. I use those as more of a reference than the JH's of this world. There are many here who have more sophisticated palates than myself, hence the ability to find some of those wine characters that you mention is off great importance. Sometimes it's a challenge but that's the fun part.

Wait, most of what I'll send back are Shiraz having re-imposed my ban on Shiraz and, and, and I've just bought an expensive shiraz (blend) - though as I said before, I do like the pinot-dominant 2012.
