We cracked open the Spy Valley Gewurztraminer tonight. First reaction was that it's much sweeter than anticipated. It also has a lot of musk, like musk sticks but dustier. It's very complex. There's a kind of flat, almost bitter, taste but that sits next to the sweetness - it doesn't override it. Not what I was hoping - I don't really know what to make of it. It's not a bad wine, by any means. Tonight we had it with a Thai stir-fry. I'm not sure what situation it best fits but I don't think I want to part with it.

Does it have "LR VinoMofo Shiraz" printed on the side? The Gapsted LR Durif 2015 has that, indicating exclusive to VinoMofo.

Indeed it does redbigot, printed LR Vinomofo Heathcot Shiraz 2015,

And,

a stuck on label on the side, Limited Release Vinomofo Heathecote Shiraz 2015 Produced by Victorian Alps Winery.

Also impressive is the anti return feature included.

Not only is there no cardboard dividers of any kind between the bottles, the box itself is flimsy, and no tape reinforcing top or bottom.

I am surprised it got here, no possibility of surviving a trip back to Vinomofo. I wonder how many are being broken in transit.

Sounds like something I'd expect from Gewurz and I would've thought Thai would've been a pretty good match.

Musk sticks are a very common aromatic descriptor for a Gewurtz. Thai with a bit of heat is the perfect match actually.

We had plenty of chilli in the stir-fry but the Gewurz didn't seem to go well with it. I've had other Gewurztraminers that I've liked very much but this one just doesn't seem to come together. I thought it could be a nice change from Riesling but the Spy Valley just isn't.

Looks like this will be my first Vinomofo return, largely because I can't imagine any situation where this wine will work and I know my Riesling-drinking friends would politely decline after the first sip.

The Gewurz experiment is over and I now need to find an acceptable and affordable Riesling for a party I'm having next weekend. Boo!

Kinda pays homage to the very handsome old geiser doesn't it.

Kim Brabach from bestwinesundertwenty has a lovely narratice involving his dad and Vickery and the Hesketh family. Hesketh from Coonawarra have some odd looking labels but reasonable wine. I bought a case of their Cabernet a few years ago when Winemarket had the price at $7 and not $26, and they honoured their error. Had one recently and from memory a good eucalyptus infused Cab. I like it.

Hmm not sure, I am in Melbourne. Dan's have it but theirs I think is the 2015. You want the 2016.

I concur, but I think the sweetness is from flavour rather than sugar as such. I'm very happy to have them
