Vinomofo Wine Deals

Have you tried it or any of their other wines? I know they're meant to be good/value, like Marius and Head, but just haven't had a taste yet

Their Rieslings are generally quite good.
I tried this, and thought it was fine for $19, though I'm not a mouvedre expert by any means. I'm going to give a bottle to my former neighbour (who is a mouvedre fanatic) when I see her next to get an expert opinion.

This Pinot Noir is the Matahiwi Estate Reserve Selection 2016. Young, but a really good value NZ Pinot for $11.50 IMHO.

Thanks to BC20, tiger8888, Steady and W&D for the head ups on the Giants Steps 2014 Merlot - it's excellent. Also to sagittariusdrake for the tip on the Hewitson Minimal Intervention Sangiovese 2015 enjoying it and picked up their Tempranillo too.

Always a pleasure to be able to pass on a positive review about a wine and make a recommendation, I appreciate the same from others too:)

Agreed on the Rieslings.. very nice. Most of the Atlas wines go fairly cheap on Langtons.

It's either a wine that has no reviews, or got bad reviews. Ten Miles East made a 2008 shiraz at a $30 RRP, which got an 84 from Halliday.
Alternatively, if it has no reviews and no description, I wouldn't pay $1 for this, let alone $11...

Any ideas on the 2008 Adelaide Hills Shiraz today, $11 down from $30. Thought it might be from The Lane given the more expensive back vintages VM have had recently, but can't see anything they make in that price range.

If AC can't ID it, does it really exist?
Taking up the challenge & at risk to my 'reputation' ...
I 'think' it may be Longview???

Potentially, but according to the Halliday review, that was $27 RRP. It also got a 90, which I'm a bit surprised they wouldn't mention. More importantly, Campbell Mattinson gave it 91+, which they'd usually mentioned too.

Yes AC, I have taken liberties with this one. The current vintage is $30 so I went with that as per VM habit, I wasn't aware of CM 91 but I think even VM know a JH 90 is damning with faint praise. ;)
In addition this review review from 2011 doesn't bode well if I'm right ... :-|

Pretty sure the average punter that VM sells to doesn't downrate JH scores. And to be fair, the points inflation has only been in the past 5-10 years.

Either way, the wine is reviewed (and got bad scores), or the wine's just rubbish IMHO. If the wine was OK, they'd send it off to Sam Kim/Tony Keys/etc. and get a printable number. The description says nothing about what the wine is like, and there's no scores from anyone, so it could be just about anything, but I'm suspecting it's not very good. Plenty of other options out there to spend $120 on.

I got the same email;

Hey Steady,

We remember you bought this Black Market Deal Cabernet Sauvignon a while back and, if you loved it half as much as we did, you should listen in real close.

I didn't like it and sent it back.....

Agreed :)
I wonder where it materialised from?

What was your impression of it (other than not liking it) Steady just out of idle curiosity?

I'm enjoying my first Glenlofty Cab Sauv tonight, another VM bargain. Personally I rate the SV as my favourite Glenlofty followed by the straight Shiraz then the CS but even in third place it is a very nice wine

W&D, I have no notes and no recollection why I sent it back - I just had a look in this thread around the date it arrived and found the above post where I say that it was nice......

I was buying a lot from VM at the time with $50 referral credits coming in left right and centre, so I suspect with hindsight I reasoned it was "only" nice, whereas other GL wines at the time were stunners

Hope you didn't think I was grilling you, merely curious as, you quite rightly point out, most of the Glenlofty range seem to have been very decent drops. I'm still waiting to have the case of Lagrein picked up as I ordered a return back in late March

Have done, twice already or is it three times? Tasfreight are pretty slack to put it mildly every time I need to get a pick-up, I even tried to get VM to put the hard word on them to collect the case when dropping off the Giant Steps but apparently that was too difficult!
