I missed out on the Amelia Park (holding out for free shipping is fraught) but happily got a couple in the "Best of the West" carton that just arrived.

Speaking of brokers, how do you get one? A friend has been called by one a few times and said it was after he hadn't ordered in a while. Occasionally I've wanted to check on availability of further wines listed as sold out but alas, no friendly broker to call.

Just sales reps...contact them and ask for one.

I've had several and had trouble ditching them all. They have very little knowledge of the products they are selling. They claim they have looked at my sales history and were recommending wines based on my preferences but their suggestions were frequently ludicrous.

I had the 2014 a few weeks ago. I quite enjoyed it, but it might do with another year or two from memory.

This seemed to be the same consensus from my mates who've opened theirs. Enjoyable but will really benefit from a couple years sleep.

^^^This. And it's not just VM, but all the mobs. Will call you up flogging whatever their manager has told them they need to move. It's sales 101, so ask for one at your own peril.

I have been with the fo for a long time but made it it clear early on that I did not want a broker.. or any calls with deals or offers or…...
If I email them someone always replies promptly.
In the context of service , they have always done what they say they will do…
A pretty good operation from my one rat study….

They do seem to have a few deals not available online: they had some '06 Trocken Riesling, and some Alsace Pinot Gris which I haven't seen online. My previous broker noted that, apparently, I'm already well aware of all the black market deals, so they only bother me with stuff not up on the website

To be sure , if you are a high volume customer, you will/should get deals and offers that are unseen by common plebs and that's fine with me.
I have pondered a bit of relationship building for the aforementioned reason, but concluded that as my consumption is slowing rapidly , I am not going to buy enough to interest anyone.

Too true V50, GWD (not that I was exactly a high volume buyer from them) tried to foist one on me a couple of years ago but after having them call me in the middle of a parent-teacher interview or at work I very quickly dropped them off the deep end, I agree, it's all about sales and 'moving product' IMHO....

I tried it last night and tonight (a mate brought one over after having just received it) - it was as nice, but I found it interesting as it was ready to drink now (not overly tannic and didn't appear to be built to age) and a bit short (I prefer my Shiraz big, rich and smooth).

I don't think it was worth $30 odd, let alone $100.

I see The Truffle & Wine Co. Oregon Pinot Noir 2014 has been re-stocked

I boomed very early on the initial offer & am very happy with this one. Taste & feel is oddly like something in between Oz & NZ pinots - quite light bodied but with a reasonably long palate. Even with my very limited experience with decent Burgundy, not anywhere close. Very clean & fresh, no hints of barnyard 'complexity' (why Brett is considered desirable I shall never know - I'll go drinking in the barnyard if I want those aromas). As usual I cannot understand why anyone could or would pay full RRP but for good pinot made in Oregon a good price, if under instruction - again I wonder why & how ...

Gripe time: San Marzano Collezione 'Cinquanta' is not "50 shades of Italian seduction. A blend from 1962-2012" as in their email title. It is a blend but of 2 vintages only. I looked it up when first touted, intrigued at using fortified/sherry blending techniques for table wine. But no, wrong, VM & unchanged too, what's worse. Sorry, I can't be bothered looking up the info again.

I think VM would get much better, more accurate, honest & less fluffy spiels if they out-sourced these plugs to, say, the cultured souls & palates of AFF Frequent Flyer Wine Lovers *hint*
