The current Black Friday campaign proves Vinomofo have lost they've lost their way.

Who tf wants to buy a one, and only one, $100+ bottle of wine that has a 10-20% discount and still available from the wineries directly?
  • Yarra Yering No2 '21 is available direct for $135; vm $110
  • The Standish '22 is available direct for $125; vm $129.99 (!!)
  • By Farr RP '22 is available direct for $170; vm $140
  • Maurice O'Shea '14 is available direct for $500; vm $450
  • Mumm NV is available from Dan's for $59.99; vm $50
If you're buying these wines, do you care if you save 10-20%? Wouldn't we rather pay a little extra, get a few bottles and not be rushed by an artificial timer. Also, if you're only buying 1 bottle, wtf are you doing with it?

Vinomofo's point of difference was great drops at great prices, so unless they offer these wines at massive discounts (eg. the first fridge magnets campaign) this is just any other sale at any other wine store, with an artificial restriction on the number of bottles you can buy

What are they doing? Trying to bring in folks with headline mkting campaigns, limit supply, and fill the carts with cough. They've lost their way.

I think that they have lost the money trying to compete with the majors for the market share. And now find it hard to raise more capital.
Reminded me of One.Tel that had some revolutionary ideas and tried to take on the major telcos at its peril.

My thoughts exactly. I got excited when I saw the wines you listed were included in the sale.. until I saw the prices.

I've also been refreshing to try and catch the limited drop deals. They're reasonable prices, but at the same time super disappointing compared to what they used to be.

Every single week Vinomofo have what they allege to be the biggest sale ever. In reality its just the same stuff over and over.

And then you reach Black Friday, where they really want to create a big song and dance, and its just rinse and repeat. Same stuff as last Friday, which was the same as the Friday before etc...

The only thing that changes is the hyberbole of the marketing.

They have over hyped themselves into oblivion.

They have over hyped themselves into oblivion.

Not quite yet, but history says it's likely. They have outlasted many other ambitious start ups though.

I just ignore the offers like those you listed, fridge magnets, etc, etc.

They actually have quite a number of mid-level offerings: $15 range, $25-$30 range, a few up to $50, from good vintages and even allowing for the super-hyped crazy RRP on some of them, there are more that seem decent value than I have seen in the previous year or two.

Part of their mission is to help drain the lake of excess wine, I think they are doing a reasonable job with that.

The recent flurry of bigger discounts from the chains indicate they are not moving as much as they want either, whether people aren't buying or they are buying elsewhere than from the chains, I certainly have been (buying elsewhere).
