Hi finally got my card and activated.

Here's a referral link for those still to get it. 110,000 Velocity points (or roughly 80,000 KF miles) which can get you a return J flight to South east asia I believe.

Does anyone think Amex will up the referral points in another months time? They went from 60k to 80k about 6 weeks ago then to 110k few weeks ago.

Its starting to dawn on me that with Amex handing out literally billions of Velocity points with this ridiculously generous promotion, that the value of Velocity points will naturally decrease because the points will become much harder to use....

Depends on how many people wise up on using them "effectively". There's a bunch of people out there who may just burn them for gift cards (which is, by measure, a considerable amount of free credit).

Also, some who sign up may be in families and can't get more than one 110k bonus. They'll probably be looking at Y awards.

The SQ sweep possibility, despite YQ on such awards, will also move the pressure around.

Finally, even if it did have a marked effect on issuing so many points out for free, it probably wouldn't be long lasting enough for any short term changes to the programme.

My +1 signed up, got her card 2 days ago, spent $1045 yesterday, and the 110000 pts are in her Amex account today.....wonder if I can sneak the pts from her Velocity account across to mine without her noticing...I'm ineligible for this offer as I already have the Amex Plat reserve card

Yes, I think that in the scheme of things people like those of us here who are perhaps a bit savvier in the use of points (not that I'm particularly savvy) are a small minority of the people that have signed up. Even fewer people would be looking at J/F, and fewer still going the SQ route. It would be interesting if Virgin released a bit of a breakdown of how people use points though.

Well all those Big 4 banks has also been given away all these QFF points with no annual fee first year deal anyway. If you can get the points, why not? If you don't sign up, you miss out.

We needed to book SQ F/Suites to LHR after booking QF F on the way back. It would be a pain if we couldn't get SQ flights we wanted as QF one is very difficult to get for June 2016.

My partner's credit card number indicates a statement date around Aug 6-7 so we tried our luck and called Amex on Tuesday night asking if there is anyway to speed it up a bit.

A nice American CSR informed us that nothing could be done and the bonus points would be transferred automatically a few days before a statement date which would be around Aug 2-3 for us. We asked if moving statement date forward would help and he just laughed out loud saying he never heard anybody asking this and it was still a no. Hung up and a bit worried about the flights.

To my surprise, Amex initiated the transfer the next day July 29 and I got the points in Velocity on July 30. Transferred to SQ straight away and 2 F/Suites booked

Not sure if this is just a coincident or it happened because we sounded desperate lol Anyway we are very happy and grateful.

I had my points posted a good number of days before my statement date as well, so I'd lean more towards happy coincidence.

Dad just received his card. Activated and all that jazz, but couldn't find the referral link.

I just went through it with him live and eventually found the way to get the link - is it just me ignorant or is the process to get the link not that obvious?
