Virgin Amex Velocity Platinum card now 110k points

Got the SMS of approval today. Now playing the waiting game for the card.

Amex don't seem to do many checks on applicants? Whilst I think I would get the card alright, I was at least expecting some resistance or having to send some details to Amex. Is this just Amex in general, or have credit lenders in Australia become a bit more lenient in the last 12 months? (I mean, I tried to apply for Bankwest Platinum before or even Woolworths Qantas, and got knocked back...)

Based on my experience points seem to be going to anyone.... Received bonus signup points less than 6 months ago on platinum edge but chucked in an application for the velocity platinum card last week - instant approval using a referral from my wife's recently issued (110,000pt offer) AMEX velocity platinum card.

Arrived and activated on Monday (along with the standard other letter... limit taken into consideration etc), 1k spent by Tuesday.

110,000 points showed up on my AMEX account this morning along with 20,000 referral points for my wife.

Christmas has come early :D

p.s. if this post has given someone the confidence to apply feel free to use my link (lol, yes another link in this thread!)

One of my sons was accepted for the card but without the 110k points. They ruled him ineligible due to an existing Amex card.

Are you able to provide more detail on his situation? (ie, which card & how long held, automatic approval on the VFF card etc) - not for me but for anyone else reading this thread that hasn't yet applied.

I imagine he spent the required 1k, points didn't show and made a call?

I will get to see the details when we get back to Perth later this month. He has some fee free Amex card that is getting the points earn cut about now. He has an Amex Black ANZ CC for ATO.

Big news for me and big update for me! My 110k bonus showed up in my account today just a couple days after making my first spend! Absolutely ecstatic and thanks to all the fellow AFF'ers for all the info. I wouldn't have applied otherwise.

A basic rundown of my application:
- been a DJ's amex cardholder only for a few months
- applied and had to wait for them to review my application
- few days later I received an sms stating I was approved
- another few days later and I received a letter in the mail stating they are taking into account my current amex card limit when deciding on the credit limit for the new card
- received card in the mail
- activated and made a few transactions which came in to over $1k
- two days after the spend I checked my points balance and the 110k points posted with my very first spend which was only a few hundred dollars.

So if anyone was in a similar situation to me I would say to go for it!

My +1 signed up, got her card 2 days ago, spent $1045 yesterday, and the 110000 pts are in her Amex account today.....wonder if I can sneak the pts from her Velocity account across to mine without her noticing:)...I'm ineligible for this offer as I already have the Amex Plat reserve card :(
FWIW, here is the referral link: https://www316.americanexpress.com/...merHub&MGMURN=AAAABgQSFxseCw==&CPID=999999484

Based on the reports here, i have now signed up for this card myself and received the physical card today....now to work out what to spend the $1000 on.....
For others info and benefit, I have a Plat reserve card (about to be cancelled), and after spending just $600, the 110k popped up in my acct....so don't all rush out to put $1k on the card ASAP ;)...above link is still active:)
I got both my long retired parents to sign up as well, and to everyones' surprise, they were immediately approved as well....so recruit your parentsl! Unfortunately, they want the points themselves....

That's a classic - I should try to enrol the dog and the kids and see what happens :)

Out of curiosity - did your long retired parents meet the $65k income requirement?

You may be surprised how many people on here are retired and still 'play the game'. But, AMEX seems to be floating spaghetti, I mean confetti, around with these cards.

Has anybody here, or know of anybody that has applied with an income below the stated minimum and been approved? Wondering whether I should try chancing it by signing up the wife..

My dad just signed up and he put a figure which was less than $65k p.a.. He is retired. He was approved without any question.

That all said and done, of course they have substantial assets as well. That is one of the questions on the application.

The points and benefits splurge by AMEX for this card is actually a bit ridiculous ( I always thought the original 50k points was a good deal) and take up of the offer seems to be very high but make hay I say. I wonder if they will pull the offer early?? I assume AMEX would have a target they want to meet and won't have unlimited points to throw out to the masses.

As for retirees, if you tick the 'retired' box in the application form there is a different set of criteria to fill out opposed to being 'employed'. It will also ask for a contact person to verify your income. A retired family member signed up and put his wife as reference to verify. Never received a call or had to provide any further verification other than what was written in the application and he was approved. He does meet all criteria and would have provided further info if requested. It would seem that in the majority of cases, if your credit check is ok, you're good to go although I would be prepared to provide extra info if they ask for it.

Here's my application link for anyone interested in the 110k offer. T's and C's as per AMEX.

Well they will want something for their $349 annual fee each!

Well, I put in an application for my wife (who works but doesn't meet the minimum income requirement) last night. They said it's being processed and would notify her within 5-10 working days.

She received a SMS this morning to say it's approved! :)

I am having enormous trouble loading an application for my wife using one of the referral links from this site. I am on step 6 out of 6 but every time I submit the application it just redisplays the page - no error message or anything. Anyone else get this?
