Virgin Amex Velocity Platinum card now 110k points

It seems the address was OK even though our address has a letter after the number. My wife has the ANZ Black Amex which was declared on the form - as soon as we removed that it worked. Of course it does mean that the application is not completely correct now but if they question her she will just tell them to spend a bit of money improving their software. It is absolutely ridiculous that the form wouldn't submit yet wouldn't highlight what the problem is.

What mlob said was correct. Your ANZ Amex is bank issued and doesn't count as an 'amex' card in your application so your application was indeed correct.

That's good because my wife received sms around 1pm that her application had been approved which was about 3.5 hours after submission. I am bit surprised that the approval process is so quick on a Sunday or maybe it is automatic?

I applied late one evening and the response was so quick I think it has to be automatic.

A colleague of mine spoke to someone at the AMEX office, and supposedly if you apply directly through their normal offer(ie. not through a referral), which includes a 100k bonus point offer, if you already hold an existing card/previously held one in last 12 months, then their system won't give you the 100k points. BUT, if you apply through a referral, that overrides their system to actually give the 110k bonus points, even though its not supposed to. So, moral of the story is, make sure you apply through a referral(if you already hold an AMEX-issued card or did previously), not just for extra 10k points, but for the "undocumented" benefit of overriding their T&Cs of not awarding bonus points if already existing customer.

Interesting, it does seem that most who already hold an Amex are receiving the sign-up points through these referral links. If Amex are aware of this you would think they would try and shut it down?? I wonder if this is also the case if you apply for the Amex Velocity Escape card, which if signed up through a referral link offers 15k points for no annual fee, so essentially 15k points for nothing (well an entry on your CR)...

This is the better deal that's for sure 110K points and all the other accoutrements. And, here is a link to get those points:

If you only had one shot at a signup bonus (which is what it should be but isn't necessarily) would you rather the free 15k points with no fee or 110k points, a free return virgin domestic flight and a $350 fee?

I know which one I'd choose ;)

you're missing the point, what if you sign-up and receive the AMEX velocity plat card with it's 110k bonus (agree this is by far the better deal) and then also sign up for the Velocity AMEX Escape card and so for no extra cost receive an extra 15k points on top of your 110k.... (or an extra 35k points if you 'refer' yourself)??? only 'cost' would be an extra remark on your CR which depending on your financial situation could mean a little or a lot...

I misinterpreted as it wasn't clear in your post that you would also be applying for the Velocity Escape Card. I thought you were comparing the bonuses which I believe get me outta here also thought hence the referral to the better deal.

There are better bonuses out there than a 'free' 15k points not to mention you are at the risk of Amex not crediting you with the bonus points due to being an Amex cardholder. ANZ have a 50K points and no annual fee deal ATM.

I would say that it is better to sign up the Velocity Amex AND Qantas Ultimate (80K Qantas points + free flight) OR the Amex Platinum card (120K Membership Reward points) as they both provide large bonuses.

The escape card only gives 15K points which is not much in the scheme of things, and you still get hit with 1 credit application on your VEDA file.

If your credit file is gonna get hit, may as well go for the one with large bonii to make it worth it.

Hearing you, however my original post was in reference to aprevious post where it had been stated by Ghostdunks that Amex had (inadvertently??)advised that if you currently apply for one of their cards through a referral link(as opposed to Amex website) then even if you are an existing Amex card holderyou still receive the sign-up points.

Anyway, haven’t tried any of this, just speculating…..

While I haven't followed the last few pages, are there actually any instances where someone with an existing card didn't get the bonus? It seems like this thread provides a fairly definitive case for stating that existing Amex cardholders will get the bonus if they're referred.

And on that note I still have 8 referrals to go (thank god for family, eh?):

As many have noted, this card provides a whole lot of benefits over and above the 110k points:
> domestic return flight (as someone in Canberra with family in Brisbane, this pretty well covers off the annual fee by itself!)
> 2 Virgin lounge passes (to use with your free domestic return!)
> 3 points/$ for spend with Virgin
> 3 points/$ for spend at over 10,000 restaurants around Australia (pretty sure this is the highest earn rate for spend at a restaurant for any card - can someone confirm?)
> and a whole lot more!

I recall seeing a post from Cove advising his son didn't get them but may be mistaken

Son of cove may spend $1,000 to see what happens. If no 110,000 he will cancel and get the fee refunded.
