Just a quick question. I have a platinum edge & am hoping to refer my partner for a platinum velocity. I can generate the link, but I'm not sure how velocity points are going to be posted to my platinum edge?? Any pointers here would be much appreciated. ;-D
Thanks

Another data point.

I do not meet the minimum income and already had 2 Amex cards Edge and Business Accelerator. After reading some comments here, I decided to take the risk and cancelled Edge that I held for 7 months. Applied for this card and got approved. :D

- I applied as a self employed with income 50k.
- Credit score was sitting at 766
- Applied for 2 cards this year (Edge and ANZ) and the last application was July 4
- First Amex card in 2012

It was weird though. The form didn't ask for my accountant like other forms (or maybe I missed it??) so I used my name as a company contact, basically no way to verify income. I applied for 3 Amex cards in the past and this is the first time I got a call from Amex asking for a copy of my utility bill. CSR also asked me if I cancelled Edge for a bonus as I wouldn't be eligible, only those that have not held an Amex card for the last 12 months. I said that was fine. I was told the same thing in the past so I'm not worried. I also didn't get any approval message and had to call. Was approved on Aug 12 but still no card yet only letter. I signed up under my partner (who used seritonin's link) and the points showed up the next day after approval. Will report back if Amex enforces the terms on my account.

I cannot generate a ref link yet so here is my partner's link :D https://www316.americanexpress.com/...1A4409E63&mgmerSource&MGMURN=AAAABgQbGhEdFQ==

Also is it normal to get 3 Veda alerts? One for my account, one for employer (myself) and one for my address.

It's funny... I wasn't prepared to cancel my plat edge card as I get so much use out of it so ran the risk and the points came across.

FWIW I did get 2pts/$1 spent on an Agoda booking the other day day using my new Velocity Platinum.

A quick update for those that have recently applied, as likely what's happened to me is widespread, eg approved but no card received. Got an email Monday this week saying to activate card or to ring up if I had not received the card. Rang up and was advised there is a delay in issuing new cards and expect it by 28Aug. Letter received today which says the "plastic" will be printed 20Aug. I applied 07Aug. So sadly not even an ability to post my referral link as yet.... :)....

Same boat as you with being approved and no card received yet due to a delay in printing the card.
This morning I received by email a link to my Statement. I gave Platnium desk a call thinking somebody may have intercepted my card, but I was told it was the annual fee statement as statements are generated 19th of the month. I advised that until I receive my card I could not access/register for my account to view the online statement via login and she said she will also post the statement to me.

I would've thought that until I activated my card I should not be receiving a statement for the annual fee. Should I be ringing them back and complaining about this ?

mlob, I was told early this year that only 2 credit card accounts are allowed. If I want 3 amex cards, one of them has to be a charge card. That's why I had to cancel one of mine. Both of them are credit.

There had been some queries on here about holding the Platinum Charge card and still be eligible. It being a charge card may not affect the total of cards allowed as you suggest. All good here with one charge and two credit cards.

I've had two non-AFF referrals and may possibly get another couple (hence not bumping my link).

I just checked Google and it seems like when you search 'win-win' the first result is "Current AMEX Velocity Platinum Referral Promotion"

Have used one of the links in this forum from someone who posted handy info so will try pass the baton on and hopefully someone finds my comment interesting.

The magic point amount required for a Europe return trip is 250,000 points for a return business class (J) seat.
250,000 velocity points would also get you two return economy(Y) seats. If you are lucky enough to have a companion/husband/wife you is eligible to apply..... two credit card 110,000 bonus amounts plus one referred amount will give you 240,000 points. Need another 10,000 points and you don't think you'll achieve it soon enough with credit card expenditure or flying (or begging from a relative) you can purchase velocity points from the Starwood Preferred Guest program, SPG points transfer to Velocity at 1:1. Join SPG for free and purchase 10,000 points for $350 US. SPG membership is free. (There is typically a two week wait between joining and being able to purchase SPG points).

Unfortunately no one has used my referral :(.
Please feel free to use my link ...

Wife had a letter stating that there were delays in getting the card and had the 10 day extension to meet the $1k threshold.

Still haven't received the card but she did get the annual fee bill in the mail today!

Thanks :)

I also got the delay letter and the card was eventually sent in an express post envelope, though the additional card arrived first. The forum is more switched on than the call centre - they had no clue about the delay.
