Perhaps to my detriment I have been holding off putting up my link, thinking there are so many links here who would want to use mine?

So here I am, putting up my own LINK with 10 or is it 20 referrals available.

I shall say thank you in advance should anybody use my link.

Once isn't enough? Should be a rule that you only put your referral link up once instead of repeated bumps that are happening.

It's got a bit out of hand hasn't it? I think I've done it 2 or 3 times but there has been a massive influx of new or non-contributing members pushing their referral links.

Too good to pass up on this one. I just activated a card signed up for using a link for anat0l's Dad.

Here's my link in the interests of paying it forward.... HERE

I can confirm that my mum who has an Amex David jones card got 110,000 points for the new velocity card.

I just applied myself and got an SMS approval within 1 hr. Very fast turn around :)

Another data point...

Cancelled my Platinum Edge in April and received the bonus points. Great process on Amex's behalf.

If anyone is still interested, I'd appreciate if you click through my referral link although if not I've found the following random posts from mid way through this thread that may appreciate some love as well, who (I think) have only posted their referral once:

After signing up using fellow AFFer's link. Here is my link hoping to share the love.

Received and activated my card today after applying on Monday. Very quick, very easy, and paypass actually works consistently with this card (unlike the NAB Amex).

Now to find something to spend 1K on :)

Just received the Velocity card and will hopefully get the 110,000 points when I pay off the tax bill I was surprised with last week!

Here's my referral link for those wanting an extra 10K points on top of the 100K existing offer (or want to sympathise with my tax plight, haha!): https://www316.americanexpress.com/...8CBA3962F&mgmerSource&MGMURN=AAAABgQSDRsfCQ==

One from us :) Applied July 7. Approved the 8th and spent $1000 on the 10th.

Here is the referral link if anybody wanna give some love. :D

Thanks!

Hi All,

Used a referral link from this thread to get this card.

Here is mine so hopefully someone else shares the love.

Hi guys,

Applied with Burmans link a little while ago.

Would love for somebody to use mine also...

Massive understatement!

Thats why, as predicted, the '5' min posts rule set by the mods isnt working and we now have over 100 links in this thread.

In a way, some of these things end up as farces or sort themselves out.
  • Since you are the headline post, it may be natural that people use your link, unless you have had it reported and removed.
  • If someone really spammed their link, then most would realise it's annoying and may not use it; in addition, spamming without much purpose or with purpose to annoy can be reported or otherwise moderated.
  • I've seen people put their referral link in their signature. That carries outside this topic. How does one judge that approach.
  • In any case, with pages and pages of links (especially depending on whether you view 10 posts per page or 40 per page), which link do you end up choosing? If you actually made some sort of conscious choice, then any apparent "spamming" that may seem to detract or be unfair would be rather irrelevant. For example, if you think someone who has less than 5 posts - an insignificant contribution to AFF to date - doesn't deserve to get a referral, then you will choose another one.
  • People will have different reasons for selecting certain links. The only reason to perhaps limit it based on some restrictions would be to counter laziness or randomness, i.e. no particular reason to select a link.

So whilst we can discuss what is unconscionable, unfair or immoral, I think it makes little difference overall in this thread as far as referral links / bonuses are concerned. I also think such discussion is a bit too deeply critical; it should at least be split off as another thread.

Perhaps we need a conga-line style like FT?

You mean the OP generates a link which is used by the next, which is used by the next one etc. in a purely single-sequence manner?

Like, if you are interested, you sign into a "queue", then referral links to apply are generated one by one, taking the next person in the queue as you go?

Sounds like a good idea. It may not play well for those who are in a hurry.

That is, all in hindsight now.

For what it is worth, the person who received the referral bonus arising from my application was my father. And my father was supposed to benefit a friend who didn't post here, but he made the "mistake" of going straight to the Amex website rather than using the link I gave him!

Maybe not so much a conga line but really a stickied thread that directed users to the next in line referral - That way it is a lot fairer.

Wasn't sure where to post this, as it applies to this Card, but not directly to the sign up bonus. I will post it in the VA forum also....

I just rang VA to find out the details of the J class Companion fare offer. It's a bit vague, as there is not a set amount 'off' the published fares. VA offer an amount of around 50% of their highest J class fare (which is not published on the VA website..) . From what I could gather, this fare to Europe comes in at around $14,900 plus taxes per person. The companion fare would therefore offer two seats for this price. It applies to VA flight numbers only on VA or EY metal. It does NOT include flights in SQ.

Interestingly, the offer does NOT include any destinations in Asia.
The US (west coast) is around $12,900 for two in this offer. East coast is around $14,900. Flights can be VA or DL flight numbers..

Oh -and the number to call is 1800 621 524 and then press option 1 (ignore the fact that it says qantas..). Dialing the 1300 number on the back of the CC will just mean spending a LOT of time on hold, only to be transferred again once you are through.

Aka the same price as 2 x cheapest J fare class aka the offer is a farce?

not quite, but I guess it depends what fares are on offer when you book. I looked at BNE -FRA over Christmas. J class return was approx $9400 per person, so the companion offer would save me around $5000... I'd be happy with that.

I might turn this around. In 25 words or less why should I use your referral link?

A quick update for those that have recently applied, as likely what's happened to me is widespread, eg approved but no card received. Got an email Monday this week saying to activate card or to ring up if I had not received the card. Rang up and was advised there is a delay in issuing new cards and expect it by 28Aug. Letter received today which says the "plastic" will be printed 20Aug. I applied 07Aug. So sadly not even an ability to post my referral link as yet.... :)....
