Mrs SydneySwan just received a letter from Amex. She was expecting her card but instead it was an apology 'We are writing to let you know that we are experiencing a slight delay in the issuing of cards'. The upshot is that she will be given an additional 10 days to meet the required spend to achieve the 100,000 bonus Velocity Points.

So the campaign must be very successful. Perhaps they have run out of electronic chips? Or the glue that holds the card to the letter? Or plastic to make the cards?

Is an extra 10 days to spend the money suitable compo? What do you think? Should she ask for the first year's fees to be waived?

Maybe the effects of referrals and the spread of the word has finally caught up to card production.

I think the extra days are not compo as such, just more that a matter of fairness (so to speak) as there is lost opportunity between when the card is approved and when you can actually use it to start spending. I'm not sure you'd be successful in getting the first year's of fees to be waived, unless it meant you gave up the card entirely, or accepted a fee waiver in exchange for not being able to meet and earn the signup bonus.

If anyone would like to spread the love around, here's my referral link:

Thanks in advance!

The way that this credit card and its points being awarded and how it's proliferating is almost ridiculous and comical.

I managed to attach my new card to my existing American Express online service profile. Hopefully that doesn't count against me to get the 110k bonus, but seeing as "everyone else" that isn't new is getting it, it'd be a bit rash if I didn't get it as well. Now have to work on making the $1000 required.

It wont, i did the same thing.

Free bump for your referral :D (even though i have my own in this thread - honour amongst thieves LOL)

For anyone now wanting to sign up for this card, can I suggest that you use a random referral link of one of the newer members here, as there is a maximum of 10 signup referral bonuses per person and the main people on here would already have reached that (me included) so they won't benefit from any further signups. Just trying to spread the love! :D

Might be worth editing your old posts to redact the link, unless anyone has quoted your link.

Maybe we need some kind of referral-tron machine which collects all the links and picks one randomly for you to use :)

No one has been so kind as to use my link as yet. So if anyone is feeling generous , my link is below:

Thanks everyone!!

Got my card and finding a little tough with places accepting Amex to meet the $1000 spend in the next 3 months. Tax payment coming soon, might just do that.
Heading overseas for a month shortly meaning I only have 2 months to spend $1000. Not gonna spend overseas with the 3% currency conversion fee.

Anyone wanna use my link? I would totally appreciate it...

The main problem is that post content is immutable after 24 hours. You would need to report your post and tell a mod to scratch the link and add a notice to that effect.

It is possible, though not an instant process, and maybe one that our mods might find a bit trifling in the grand scheme of things.

Tax payment could easily put it away, though keep in mind the tax office charges its own surcharges for accepting cards, and especially Amex. Also, your standard earn on government services is only 0.5 Velocity points per dollar, though suffice to say even at 3 points per dollar, the signup bonus will easily make any auxiliary earn rather redundant.

Gift cards have been a popular method.

burmans, my wife just applied for this card and has been approved right away, so 20K should come your way soon. We chose your referral link because we have benefitted greatly from your input so we thought we would give something back without hopefully offending others who have contributed to this forum...

Thanks, much appreciated!

Adding a data point for those still sitting on the fence about this offer. I already have a Platinum Edge card, I applied using one of the links here. I got a letter in the mail saying that my credit limit would take into consideration with my existing card. I got the card 2 days later and only spent around $500 before the 110k points where available in my account to be transferred to my Velocity account. So they are definitely giving the points to people with existing cards.

If anyone needs a link there are still plenty of allocations on my link :D

Points arrived in my VA account today.

2-3 weeks of holding the card and have held plat edge for a few years as well.

Happy days.

Just buy a gift card for your favourite supermarket. Can probably get 5% off as well!

I feel guilty though as I also have Amex Plat Edge... I'm looking at bills that I could pre-pay in advance.

Ebay/paypal, some insurance companies & most telcos (i prepaid a few months with Telstra/Optus). I feel your pain with the platinum edge, was in the same boat myself (and worse still local champion at my regular haunts :D)

And rather than bump my own referral ive dug back a few pages and found the most deserving.... and the winner is :D

I used a link on here to get my card thanks to smit0847.

I have posted my own link before and would be happy if I received 1 referral, none yet.

So here it is if you want to share the love around https://www316.americanexpress.com/i...QSFw0XBw%3D%3D.

Feeling hopeful ;)

Someone help a330j get his referral please!
