Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

On the other hand most DJ flights I have been on (lunch/dinner/snack) have had at least 2 reds and 3 whites. However, twice, I have only been offered "chardonnay" until I pushed...

I would say that last flight was a lazy FA as it was the exact conversation I had about a month ago with a ditzy clumsy blonde... However, I actually asked her to "go down the bacK" but funnily enough she found something else up the front.... :p

My breakfast service last friday was okay nothing to write home about... Looking forward to my dinner service tomorrow

Very likely to be posted via iPhone or iPad :)

Awesome flight PER-MEL last night. New Airbus, 5 pax in J. Love the new seats and configuration, trying to find bits and pieces to put in all the glove boxes and storage areas. Ammenities kit wouldn't fit in any of them - go figure!

Champers (x2) before take-off. Pre-dinner drink and hot nuts. Head-honcho FA introduced himself and stayed for a brief chat, my attanding FA was very courteous and attentive. First course was the smoked trout potato salad:

Was really good too, tasty trout. I requested the barramundi for main, but this was oversold so the chief FA sat down, appologised and asked if I would be okay with the braised beef. "I hope you realise I will have to change wines" was my response, so the very nice chardonnay was replaced by a very nice cab-sav.

Beef was excellent. Could have done with a bit more seasoning (couldn't get enough salt out of the little shaker).
Dessert was a choice of Tassy cheeses or/and apple and cherry crumble. I went for the cheese, with some very nice port. Then the FA said they had a spare pud and would I like it - getting full by this stage, but I couldn't dissappoint the poor lad.

Couple of (very) large brandys followed (along with a toblerone), and before you know it "please put your seats in the upright position......"

All in all a bloody good experience. And to top it off, I was presented with a bottle of champers because they couldn't provide my first choice of main.

Well done Virgin, my best flight to date - and I've flown trans-Atlantic in "Upper Class"!! Looking forward to going home on Friday.

You had the same food as me (I got the barra; see photos above). Both were excellent!

(your images are broken :S)

Another non-cheese afternoon snack on a 5pm BNE-SYD.
(poor quality as I accidentally deleted it but had to recover it)

A hot rice dish, that came wrapped in rice paper.
With a sort of tomato relish sauce that I have already poured out.

How did it taste? (I appreciate that you have taken the rice paper off)

Definitely risotto style, mixed with mushrooms and I think some sundried tomato.
Quite tasty, and an appropriate size for an afternoon snack, even if you dont get home till 8pm.

Has anyone done a Mel-Perth 737 run with the 0830 departure in J? Wondered what they served up and if I can get some spirits on board :P

Baked Ricotta and Zucchini -- quite light yet tasty to boot.
Other alternative was a Pasta and Lamb meatballs in some form of tomato based sauce - looked a lot better than the previous breadcrumb pasta.

I also noted down the wine choices -- and confirmed that this was it - no other whites or reds on offer.
.
.
White - Jacobs Creek Reserve Chardonnay 2011 (are you kidding me!!!! This is priced at $7.20 at Dan Murphys!!! for a $100 ticket price premium over Economy... Come on!!
Red - Western Range Julimar 2009 (think Tempranillo) (tasted OK but never heard of it and couldnt price online, even at the Western Range website)

So dinner food and service - plus, the wines - soso

MEL to OOL Dinner Flight

Cranberry Drink (Water offered as well):

It was not too sweet ...

Shepherd's Pie (Couscous with Mixed vegetables was the other option):

Rather better than it looks, the mince was rather tasty/spice and that green stuff on top are mashed peas.

[business] Beers available were Crown Lager or Fat Yak.

Red wine was above mentioned "Tempranillo", 'twas ok ...

Re: MEL to OOL Dinner Flight

Flew BNE CNS 945 am depature and lunch was served in J class meat balls pasta and the chocolate tart for desert. Cairns J class is catered out of originating port now and not Cairns. Except 6am depatures.

Flew MEL-BNE J this morning and had a vegetarian frittata, some fruit etc was ok...the croissant was pretty good though!

Having never flown DJ J before... Do menus get given out? Or only on certain routes?

In BNE lounge now...fat yak would be nice for the ride home!

I had my first Virgin Australia Business flight on Saturday. SYD-BNE on a lunch flight.

There was a choice of a coconut green curry with prawns, or a penne pesto pasta salad. I chose the curry which was surprisingly good.

The white wine (chardonnay) was unfortunately quite average, so even though I had two glasses of that I ended up switching to a G&T.

Choice of still or sparkling water with the meal, along with service directly from the gallery (rather than from a trolley) was a nice touch.

It was a full cabin (8/8 seats) and curiously there was a very distinct order in which meal and drink orders were taken. I (1D) received a personal greeting from the CSM and had my order taken first, then 1F, followed by 2D/F, 2A/C (or vv) and then finally 1A/1C - I was the only one who received a CSM greeting. I wonder if that was due to status, or if others were op-ups.

I agree the Chardonnay is a particularly poor choice for a J class service. On one flight the CSM serving the J cabin introduced it to me with an apology
