Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Flew ROK-BNE 25 Oct 21, 10:45am. Like the one other time I'd flown Business on this route so far (BNE-ROK) we get a choice of 2 salads. For my welcome drink I got a Mimosa and for the salad I got the Quinoa & Cauliflower which was served with cheese & crackers (taken out and put on a plate so I couldn't shove them in my bag for later - the salad was quite filling). And coffee. PXL_20211025_005851407.jpg
My travel companion @Snappytom was so disappointed as she doesn't eat salad 😂 The lovely staff member offered her a tray of sweet snacks and came back with some bickies, chocolate and a Danish. And she had a hot chocolate. Not sure if she took a photo but she can come and post that if she did ;)

For our return flight on 01 Nov BNE-ROK @ 3:30ish we got offered the same 2 salads so I chose the Caesar. I had another Mimosa for my welcome drink and the staff member took it away from me on takeoff (they didn't do that on the way down). She said she'd get me another but didn't Nvm - I had a coffee coming anyway. This time my cheese & crackers were still in the packet. Caesar Salad was OK but the lettuce was a bit sour - too much heart and whiter bits rather than the greener leaves.

Oh and they weren't as generous to @Snappytom on this flight - she only got offered cheese & crackers but she still had her hot chocky.

Does anybody know what the Gluten Free options are like on the new J menu (or if there are any)? I just managed to snag 2x J seats using our travel bank as a surprise for my wife, but I'm really hoping I can eat something on the menu. QF has been pretty good accommodating for dietary requirements in J (even in COVID) so it will be interesting to see how they stack up.

This was my first flight with Virgin since 2019 and my 5th flight ever with them, being a QANTAS loyalist I never really considered them especially after my previous J experience with them which left me disappointed but that must have been a one off because boy was I blown away today. The crew were amazing, professional, attentive and helpful. Jack the supervisor was the best domestic supervisor I've ever had.

Orders for pre-depature drinks were taken during the gaps in boarding with every guest being addressed by last name and warmly welcomed to business class, was nice to have something before take off unlike QANTAS these days. After take off meal orders were taken, either bircher muesli or an egg benedict. I had the egg, if I had on complaint it's that the egg yolk was fully cooked, not a disaster but not runny as I like. The hollandaise sauce had a nice bite too it and perfectly complement the egg. It was served with fresh fruit and a cherry Danish. Drinks were topped up non-stop and was never more then a few minutes without a full glass. About an hour later the supervisor made the rounds again with snacks.

I have to say I may be converted, this was an excellent flight. Despite being around 2:20 in the air the crew managed to interact with everyone and provide a very high level of service. It was certainly much better then my recent QANTAS flights including my latest where I was called "Sean," despite correction. (My first name does start with an s but certainly isn't Sean)

Look I know, it's not a major drama but when I was PS (mostly travelling economy) I was called by my first name as I entered the aircraft almost all the time. Since I hit Gold (September 2021) - it has not happened once. I've also taken a number of Business flights since Gold and still not called my name. 🤔 😁 Maybe I should change it to Karen and ask to speak to the manager 😏 🤣 I'm about to hit WP in a few days - I know - already!! My next flight is 30 November - I'll see if my W*anker Lady status makes any difference 😆

What more do want, them to write it on your 2 minute noodle packet ;) 😂

VA850 SYD-MEL 3pm departure
Chicken katsu curry (other option was a burrito superfood bowl - whatever that is)

The "katsu curry" isn't going to win any awards for authenticity (think schnitzel crumb with two spoonfuls of watered down curry sauce) but it was still quite tasty, a substantial portion, and the chicken itself was crispy at the edges and juicy in the middle. Miles ahead of what QF would offer on a 3pm flight, would happily order again.

Beers offered were Pure Blonde and Green Beacon

VA855 MEL-SYD 3:30pm departure yesterday had the same options as the above post, but I wasn't able to compare as turbulence kept the FAs seated for an 15-20 min shortly after we hit cruising altitude, and they didn't have time to finish serving row 2.

OT, but I felt incredibly sorry for the crew - 1D was one of the most difficult passengers I've witnessed in my flying experience.

It started before take off with an argument about putting his manbag in the overhead lockers. Then he refused to return his PDB glass before take off because he 'hadn't finished his drink'. After take off he asked for both meal options (lol) - when told no he scoffed and picked one, then went to the galley two min later to change his choice and was told it was too late, so he made a big scene. His meal was then served as the captain/FO instructed crew to prepare for landing... the FAs gave him as much time to eat as they could, but I think everyone in J was expecting fireworks when they had to collect his tray before he'd finished eating, and that we got.

He held on to the tray with both hands to stop the FA from picking it up, and started yelling at her. A second FA (possibly the CSM) had to come up to defuse the situation. As a compromise they offered he keep just the main plate of food in his lap during landing, he then gave in and let them take the whole tray. When they asked for the cloth napkin on his lap, he threw it at the FA ....

Watching all this made me wonder how far FAs let it go before calling security/police to meet them at the gate on arrival? Would they have just escalated internally to VA management to ban the person from flying with them instead?

I'd withdraw the airbridge as the mongrel stepped off.

Idiots like that need to be banned although sadly that won't achieve much. Given ID is hardly checked on domestic flights there is nothing stopping the idiots flying under a wrong name instead.

Was served this light breakfast of Grilled Mushrooms with cream cheese on toasted Turkish bread on my SYD to MEL last Saturday. This was complimented by a pear danish and OJ.

VA light breakfast (SYD-MEL).JPG

Whilst the purser described this as a toastie when he came around and took our orders, I was glad it turned out to be an open sandwich as the last toastie I had on board was quite cheesy.

Other option was the breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs plus black beans which most of the other pax had.

Big tip to everyone, all FA's have a picture of the meal along with ingredients/allergens on their iPads. Feel free to ask to see it and they will happily show you if you're unsure about your choice.

ADL-CNS lunchtime

Apricot chicken w/ mash and greens. Dessert was some kind of apple/pear contraption.

Top marks for the main - the chicken was juicy; apricot sauce flavoursome and mash was a puree but good.

Chicken and rice, cake and cheese and biscuits,

The side dish is meant to be artichoke and sun dried tomato and a stuffed pepper.

Meal was really good, artichoke could have been left out but overall excellent.
