CBR-MEL VA266 / MEL-CBR VA267
Pastrami Reuben or Burrito power bowl? (the ‘superfood’ thing mentioned up thread) on both flights.
Master Scarlett had the Reuben and reckoned something was too spicy for him. Which in reality means it was only mild!
I had the burrito bowl both ways and although it was quite plain the chipotle dressing was nice. Mostly brown rice, with some token beans (pinto beans?) and corn kernels. Easy enough to eat in the three or so minutes available on the short sector.
Fully agree, had that on a Noon MEL-SYD flight (other option was a "vegetarian wrap").VA850 SYD-MEL 3pm departure
Chicken katsu curry (other option was a burrito superfood bowl - whatever that is)
...
The "katsu curry" isn't going to win any awards for authenticity (think schnitzel crumb with two spoonfuls of watered down curry sauce) but it was still quite tasty, a substantial portion, and the chicken itself was crispy at the edges and juicy in the middle. Miles ahead of what QF would offer on a 3pm flight, would happily order again.
Beers offered were Pure Blonde and Green Beacon

Bar the food discretionary topic. What were the the VA vs QF price? Not sure what has happened to the new and improved VA J offerings MEL-ADL this evening, on par with the QF offering on the way over 24 hours earlier.

About the same for both as these were points trips.Bar the food discretionary topic. What were the the VA vs QF price?
That looks good to me, and pretty substantial for a 1hr flight. Not sure what has happened to the new and improved VA J offerings MEL-ADL this evening, on par with the QF offering on the way over 24 hours earlier.

Chicken, mash, broccolini, the sauce was maybe plum based.
MEL-CBR 8:45pm, VA291.
Options were pastrami sandwich (cold), rice salad or cheese pack on its own.
Sandwich was nice though might have been better heated a little.
A few people went the sandwich, don’t think anyone went the rice salad and some didn’t eat.
Service was pleasant and nice without being outstanding. They carted all the uneaten meals off to the back of the plane after the initial service… not sure what that was about.
It was not my intention to come across as complaining about the food size, I am a rusted on QF flyer for the OW benefits. Prior to covid the VA domestic J service was much better than QF, then after things went south for VA there was 'Noodle gate', 'box gate' and VA went on record promoting an improved service. Based on what I have experienced both airlines are on the race to the bottom. That looks good to me, and pretty substantial for a 1hr flight.
