Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Drop down screens likes in the older QF738's would have been acceptable if they didn't want to go down the full seat back IFE path

However, business class should have seat-back IFE in all seats

Going a step further and I have said it before, DJ should have copied Virgin America's business, main and economy cabin set-up

Works fine

Big Bang theory, Modern Family, couple of music channels

Far prefer that over DJ's "solution"

I must admit, its been more then 18 months since I travelled J on a QF767 - when I did the IFE was a scratchy not very stable shared screen on loop, the same for Y (of course). Really nasty for a PER-MEL flight.

Sounds like you've been lucky enough to have the v3 or v4 interior?

The new IFE is simply Samsung Galaxy Tabs

Had my first flight with them loaded last week

Not enough content, basically the same as the D-E-Player and of course not enough room to have it and a meal tray loaded

The only other change will be WiFi to stream more content to the device

It's a massive fail!

It's funny jumping on an 15 year old 767 or 737-400 and they have some TV based IFE

Cannot agree with this enough. Minimal content, poor quality content, nowhere to put the thing even with a spare seat next to me. They need to put some kind of hook or shelf on the seatback so you can place a tablet there. It wouldn't be elegant, but it's better than the current situation.

And same experience with service on a DRW-MEL recently - great guy when he was attending, but he spent 75% of the flight down the back gassbagging to the girls, and when he did come up front he didn't bother topping up wine. (the white was warm anyway - another fail).

I continue to find the A330 crews to be great, and the 737 crews can't be bothered.

Recent flight with the cheese plate!

I had a mate next to me but he kept the Tablet squashed against the window, if I was with a "stranger" I wouldn't be using the armrest like this!

Taking the opportunity while the thread is slightly off track :)! Virgin needs to review the charging process on the Samsungs. Twice domestically I have had tablets which were flat, and no charged ones left. Domestic I can cope with, but am in Bali at the moment. 6 of us came across on 2 separate flights .....no charged tablets on the first flight, and only one charged to 42 % on the second. Waiting to see what my return is like, but as an overnight flight not so important!

A big fail if they don't have them fully charged before flights!

Back on topic .... Catering and J service over here was a huge improvement on Domestic J. Really enjoyed it!

4pm flight from Sydney to Brisbane today and no cheese platter (which I dont mind anyway). Today was a hot savoury scroll and panacotta with passionfruit. Both were very nice.

I assume it was similar to this scroll that I have been offered a few times as well; Home > What we bake > Product Information > Chilli and Red Onion Scroll ......while there is nothing wrong taste wise it is pretty budget to serve up in Business class, I am pretty sure it as around $3 max at BD.

In my opinion the cheese is better than this or even one of the Luke Mangan sandwiches however the cheese plate needs to be improved. Looking at lovestotravel post below the cheese plate is still looking extremely average and that is being generous.

While the cheese plate on DJ is boring and Qantas has more variety, the appearance of the QANTAS "tasting plate" is not much better

I do like that it's more than just cheese, but water was supplied in the small Mt Franklin water bottle (removed from picture) and does QF have sparking water ? I asked once and was told "no" so haven't tried again

The cheese plate on DJ is very simple to fix though.....you get more biscuits in the economy cheese packs than they three coughpy wafer thin one's you get in J.

Yes more crackers would be nice, there is heaps of cheese but you have to put huge lumps on the cracker and it's too much cheese for the cracker

#FIRSTWORLDPROBLEM

Missing from the QF pic above was a warmish bread roll which came out after but was just put on top of the plate pictured

Yes "firstworldproblems" and when you put that "too much" hard cheese on these thinner than wafer thin crackers it breaks everywhere! If you are in the business of trying to woo customer's you do it better, you make people talk about it, want it etc. What does the VIP, who has been in their VIP lounge with Oysters and real Champagne think when they get this Ches plate or scroll offered up, let alone us non VIP's. For me it's not the issue of the cheese, cheese is great, and very enjoyable on a flight however it's almost criminal though what they are doing with the cheese! a bit over the top but you get the drift. Definitely FIRSTWORLDPROBLEM.

Some weeks ago, by consensus, people decided not to go any further down the path of firstworldproblem. If we are going to continually harp back to this phrase then we are in the wrong place and need to shut the forum down as everything on AFF would be defined as a firstworldproblem. :(

I ask for sparkling Mineral water - they at least used to have it Business with 250ml cans. Failing that I get a "Soda Water".

I must have missed that but happy to oblige! I used the term as it was used in response to my post.

SWMBO and I are travelling SYD to HTI and VV next month. What can I expect re food and drinks in J.

It depends what date you are travelling in OCT, but for most of OCT out of SYD it is an AM snack flight so you should get the Egg and Bacon Pie and fruit salad. The last couple of weeks are the Semi dried tomato spinach and fetta Tart and fruit salad. The beers in J are Fat Yak Pale ale and crown lager. The wines will be a choice of two whites and one red plus the assortment of spirits and mixers avaialble. If you get the Egg and Bacon Pie, a hint !!! Don't even attempt to eat the top of it, just peel it off and go from there. In the cooking on board it seems to get this hard film over it that is inedible.
