Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Why would you want a coughpy wrap or sandwich anyway?

Because the cheese plate is not enough!

That being said the cheese plate on Virgin is the same or worse than the Qantas one in J

The only area where QF is really better with the cheese plate is the choice of wines!

It depends on when the flight is, if it's under 1.5 hours in duration and pre 5pm I'm satisfied with the cheese platter.
However it wouldn't take much to put it on a bigger plate, and add two more cheeses and maybe some other fruits other than grapes.

This may seem strange but are J passengers able to get the banana bread off the normal menu.. ontop of their regular offering? I've found it quite nice down the back of the bus!

Yep - just ask ... !

You can also order a LM "Gourmet" beef or vege pie on flights over three hours.

Had a J breakfast flight today on a 737.

Possibly best J breakfast meal I ever had.

Pretty ordinary J dinner on SYD-BNE tonight. A "ham" pasta bake that had literally two cubes of processed ham in it. It was bland and over cooked. Along side was a salad that had nothing but lettuce in it and two chocolates.

Service was friendly but poor. I sat for 10 minutes with an empty wine glass while the crew ran back to economy. Eventually when the FA grabbed at my glass to take it away, i was able to ask for a refill. It sounds petty, but in a J cabin you shouldn't have to flag down someone for a drink (especially when there were only 4 pax in J). No subsequent drink offers were made.

To compare it with QF J on the way down... it's not even close unfortunately.

Indeed.

"Good from far, far from good" as the saying goes.

And where is that new IFE system for the 738's we kept hearing about? (sound of Dig-e-player falling off my armrest again as I try to eat yet another cheese platter and spill my cheap wine)

Everytime I travel with Mrs maninblack we have a chuckle as she thinks it's like the service you would expect from teenagers doing work experience.

The new IFE is simply Samsung Galaxy Tabs

Had my first flight with them loaded last week

Not enough content, basically the same as the D-E-Player and of course not enough room to have it and a meal tray loaded

The only other change will be WiFi to stream more content to the device

It's a massive fail!

It's funny jumping on an 15 year old 767 or 737-400 and they have some TV based IFE

Flew 8 sectors last week 2 of them over 4 hours and only had the Samsung Galaxy twice one on a OOL SYD & MEL OOL nothing on SYD DRW MEL

And music, comedy and interviews playing through a socket in the armrest, what a brilliant concept!

It's really all you want on a one or two hour flight. Not a whole lot of fumbling around and rigmarole.

Was it just me, or is the Samsung Galaxy missing half its headphone amplifier? The supplied ear pieces were inaudible, my expensive ones were just OK. This is maximum volume. The Galaxy first offered (Darwin - Sydney) was only 46% charged. iPad is SO much better....

Yes the Galaxy tab was not that loud on the highest volume.

I have good hearing and it wasn't that loud to me

As for iPad vs Galaxy, it's not the issue, the issue is a portable IFE solution on brand new aircraft

Oh had my first flight that had in-seat power in J, it was the stupid EMPower solution which needs adapters from memory ?

Most Laptops/Netbooks/Tablets do not have enough volume to be more than merely just audible in flight.

I use VLC which has volume control which can be set to over "100%" (up to "200%").

The Galaxy Tab was far quieter than the D-E-Players

All my laptops/netbooks/phone are far louder

However, another problem is the coughpy headphones that VA use

Agreed. I think this is an absolute necessity to improve these, especially in business class. The superglued adapters that QF uses on their iPads (presumably to stop the QF supplied headphones from 'walking') are far from elegant but DJ's standard white earphones are an absolute abomination to the ears in terms of both comfort and acoustics.

There are many areas in which Virgin have still not graduated from their LCC past, this is another one of those items. The whole IFE thing is a total schmozzle.
