I've got BNE/ADL and ADL/BNE coming up in 2 weeks, you had me salivating at the smoked salmon anat0l

It's not smoked, QF WP :) I never said that. It was likely seasoned, pan fried then poached (or rather, the cooking finishes on board).

As far as I know they never did on short flights.

I'm sure I saw it before on short flights. It usually came in a box (you would need to empty the packet of dukkah and olive oil onto your bread plate). This was in the days where instead of a cake, you received macadamia chocolates and a bowl of salad instead. Might be a lunch/dinner thing, don't know.

I think what was more interesting is that there was only one substantial option and the other was a mere salad. Now I didn't see the salad, but from the sound of it, it sounded like it would be something more suitable as a side salad in a bowl. In other words, even though I have nothing per se against pumpkin and feta salad (it is a delicious combination), selecting the salmon for my choice of meal was an automatic no-brainer (viz. "there was no choice").

Has anyone done the PER-HKT route in J recently? Myself and the better half booked SYD-PER-HKT with velocity points for September. The latter segment is a daytime flight. The A330 service is a delight, just wondering if the PER-HKT in J is still as dire as it seems from previous reports.

Yes I did it over xmas/new year.

We did daylight both ways - well HKT-PER left at 5pm ish. The food out of Perth was good (similar to A330 transcon) but the food out of coughet was fantastic. Four choices for main (yes four). Food was from Thai Airways catering apparently. I had red duck curry.

2 white wines and 2 reds. Didn't run out. Cabin was full.

On both flights the CSM was really good.

Flight times approx 6 hours both ways.

Edit to add: iPad/Galaxy type device used to show what the food would look like so you knew what you were ordering.

I have been on quite a few dinner flight over the last year or so and do not recall seeing that the dukkah/oil, although the chocs were around well into last year.

^^ It's long haul only. I couldn't imagine the (domestic) cabin crew putting all of the bottles in when they clean on the turnaround...

VA1384 BNE/ADL today (20/2) 737-800

Holly & Daniel greeted me at door with Holly saying she would speak to me once everybody was aboard. She looked for my jacket to hang - sorry, not wearing one today.

Seated in 2D, only other pax were in 1A & C.

Holly welcomed me with obligatory water or juice and did the spiel. Later she did the breakfast order - I chose the bacon & egg roll with onion relish. Damn that relish is good :D

She came back mid-way through flight offering another tea and just on descent, back again asking if there was anything else I needed.

Great service overall

1055 BNE-MEL TODAY
Only pax in J on the 737-800
Y looked about 85% full (rows 3-9 had no-one in B/E seats except 4B).
Was only the 1155 but arrived at lounge at ~0955 so asked for earlier flight (no problem).
Fantastic service from CS and CC on board.

Offered the breakfast meal options of fruit salad or breakfast "burrito". Chose the "burrito" (but could see that some would not want "breakfast" hot meal). Enjoyed it and two cups of coffee and two mineral waters. Offered a cookie with the 2nd coffee (which I declined).
Pic of the "burrito".

We have 2030 flight ADL/BNE tomorrow. As is close to last flight will be interesting to see what's served.
Standby for results.

Tarago River eh Drewbles? We didn't taint it whilst on the train run did we?

Now kinda on topic, does anyone know if the 737 coast to coast menu is the same as the A330?

Results are in.. TERRIBLE!

The offering was hot dogs. The FA described them as 3 inches and the worst thing she has seen on the menu in her 12 years.

Nothing even like a Wendy's hotdog apparently.

So we didn't get them. Opted for sandwiches from the menu with a choice of either chicken and salad or egg and salad.

Asked about the cheese platter and was told there was only one and the other pax (3/8 full) had opted for it..ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1393161675.693046.jpg

Time to run the gauntlet tomorrow and see if VA can rustle up two vegetarian meals on two seperate sectors. Here's hoping sitting in 1A and 1C helps the cause!
