Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

All my flights Melbourne to Sydney and vice versa for the last couple of weeks have offered a choice of still water or sparkling wine prior to departure. Maybe because they are flights departing after midday?

Oh and no lemon slices for your g&t on Virgin. You'll have to fly Rex for the lemon wedge! But then of course no spirits to put it in 🥺

Is that boiled eggs?

If only Virgin could fix their lack of bread roll and sweet/dessert issue out. The love heart choc doesnt cut it.
Two halves of one boiled egg IIRC.

Personally, I liked their move from bread roll, to cheese & crackers (when they went cafe' style menu after receivership). YMMV
(As posted by others previously, often on the late afternoon flights, many regulars upfront forgo the meal on the tray service, and just take the cheese & crackers with a glass of wine.)

And as for dessert - PANTRY, PANTRY, PANTRY, oi, oi, oi!
(Rex is the only airline that does a boxed dessert in business on short flights, Qantas and Virgin add a boxed dessert to the business tray on medium length and longer flights... however Virgin has various sorts of sweet treats available in the pantry, on all flights, but you have to ask!)

All good re: cheese and crackers. After having indulged in the lounge Saturday afternoon on the cheese and crackers plus some red, the pre-packed CC wasn't high on my wants.

Re: PANTRY - any special recommendations that you'd make here??

My only problem with the cheese and crackers is that the plastic container is not recyclable 🥺🥺
I would have thought that the hard plastic container would be recyclable, however the soft plastic wrapper is not (currently, due to RedCycle going bust).

Wonder if there's been a directive to staff to come back to exactly the offering and not an inch more??
Our offering in the morning before 10 am is
Still Water
OJ

After 10AM
Still Water
Sparking wine
(Sometimes oj will be on offer)

Some do give out sparking water on request and some don't. The ones who don't are following our service guide to offer a consistent service.

sparking water is not part of the pre departure drinks.

I've offered sparking on request for pre dep here and there but it requires more work for us going back to the galley, squeezing past boarding pax, pouring the drink, pausing boarding to deliver the sparking water.

Tim tams aren't on the menu ;)

Travelling HBA-BNE in a few days, departing 2:10pm in Biz. What meal service can be expected please, - "substantial" - something needing a knife & fork, or a snack? Going to be a big rush from 11am to boarding, also taking care of someone so will be handy to know if we need to get lunch in the terminal or not.

Pretty much all the meals in rotation are in this thread, so I'd make a decision based on that + known pantry offerings about whether for your personal needs it will be enough.

Again VA excels itself, leaving QF in the blocks.

VA 284 CBR MEL 8 JAN 23

Light cold meal - fresh, tasty Middle Eastern Dish (the alternative was a cold chicken and couscous salad)

Order of Service 1A 2A/C/D

Wine is young but comes from a good home and has body at altitude.

CSM was present, attentive and enthusiastic regarding customer service (that's the job, really). I also appreciated a thoughtful gift. The crew were young but did their job.

Well done, Virgin; I appreciated the experience.

Same as VA279 MEL-CBR Sunday late afternoon. It was very tasty. All of Row 1 starting at A, then row 2 at A.

So a 'full' meal - like lunch & dinner, then? (Sorry to be dense, but as it will be unlikely that the meal comes before 2:30pm, I'd be surprised if its not just a 'snack' - but happy to be so :) )
