Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

is there a pattern to the menus

Yes, there is a definite pattern........... they don't change....ok very slowly.

Seriously there are AFF guys who know this stuff backwards, what's loaded on various ports at various times (the train spotters of airlines meals) will chime in at some point.

VA268 CBR-MEL. 1F

PDB - bubbles or water or orange juice. I went with the bubbles.

Meal order taken - 1D, 1F, 2F, 2D. Other seats didn’t take a meal I guess.

Vego option was cauliflower and barley salad. It’s a cold dish.

Meat option was Pastrami sandwich.

Wines - a merlot and a Pinot noir. FA didn’t say the names.

I had the vego option with sparking water. Nice dish. No seasoning whatsoever, so used the salt and pepper packs for the very first time. Put away the cheese and crackers and the ♥️ chocolate for a later use.

Most of the wine is tatachilla (around $15 from Uncle Dan's)

Wines - red - Shiraz, Cab Sav, Pinot Noir and merlot. The CM didn’t have the names handy, so simply referred to with the grape variety rather than the vineyard.

Same for whites - Pinot Grigio, Chardy.
That’s an incredible variety on a short domestic flight! But I still await a Riesling …

CNS-BNE departure 11.50 am

A Thai chicken curry which sounds better than it tasted.

Numerous glasses of a very pleasant Merlot.

The flight attendant noticed me holding my phone so I could watch a movie. He came back with a bent paper cup which was the perfect phone holder.

That's service.

This cup thing happened to me, and much appreciated last year, maybe same FA.

Exactly the same MEL/CBR earlier in the week.
Same service pattern.
Seated in 2C missed out on the sandwich.
1F/2D/2F lower/nil status.
Cabin crew disappeared down the back after the service, only to return at top of descent.

25mins to clear MEL security.

I just wish VA would fill the glass when doing PDB. And do a second round.
I think their logic is that if the glass is not full one would finish their drink sooner, in time for take off …the FA don’t want to force you to chug down the bubbles before take off, but also want to sort of push to finish the drink. But I know what you mean. The glass is filled to half only …

I actually saw that thing on PER-MEL and was wondering what that was.

Given boarding takes a good 15-20 minutes, if a J passenger boards when priority boarding is called there's plenty of time to finish a glass of bubbles. It doesn't need to be spilling over, but more than half-full would be good.

It has a real kick to it.......it is certainly time to change this one out, VA.

Yes happened to my neighbour on my last VA flight - it may be a corporate-inspired initiative.

It could be a good business idea - a foldaway soft iPhone holder?

Flew OOL - MEL on Sunday, seated in 2C ... must have been a double catered flight.

2 x options - the Pastrami Sandwich, or a Vegetable Tart ... I went for the tart.

Order of service was ... 1A, 1C, 2C (me), 2D, 2F, 1D, 1F, 2A.

I was travelling solo and am WP ... lucky I had my Airpods in ... but when she went to serve the passenger next to me in 2A, she told her that all she could offer was the pastrami sandwich, then the passenger advised that they don't eat meat ... then the FA offered a variety of other options, to which the passenger refused ... to which the FA then went on to explain the process that they are only able to carry a limited number of each meal, and they must serve passengers in order of status.

As I said, lucky I had my Airpods in - maybe I should have done the good samaritan thing and offered up my tart ... I was too interested in disecting the FA telling the passenger how they serve ... but then, fully paid J fare ... and I don't like pastrami ??

ANYWAY - interesting to see it actually explained, as rude as I feel ... it is great that VA actually enforce the J cabin (with the magnetic rope, and the loo) ... serve PDB ... offer genuine Priority Boarding ... and actually give some recognition to paying guests and meaningful status ... you actually feel as though your dollars and business are well spend and well deserved / appreciated.

FYI I shouldn't forget to mention that all Priority tagged bags actually came onto the belt considerably earlier than any of the others ... the belt was almost vacant before the rest of the bags appeared.

11/10 VA .. well done again!

Yes, it's an interesting business model providing genuine service to loyal customers and demonstrating value creation.
