There are many storms in and around SYD as at 1730 hours on Sunday 2 February including one that passed above or very close to the airport a few minutes later.

VA965 was showing on the VA website as having departed punctually at 1700 hours but did not take off until 1746 hours. This is a flight to BNE with B738 VH-YFY. Was the airport closed to all traffic for a while as a storm passed over?

VH-VUC (1700 hours SYD down to MEL, VA866) was still taxiing as at 1748 hours so will be at least half an hour late.

Monday 3 February's VA341, the 1700 hours MEL - BNE took off at 1750 so B738 VH-YFH should arrive at 1847, 37 minutes late.

The CBR down to MEL VA278 is similar, with VH-VUI arriving 35 late at 1845 in the early evening.

VA218 (1135 hours late morning ADL to MEL that took off at 1218 hours with B738 VH-YFZ) is arriving at its gate at 1401 hours, 36 late.

Later on Thursday 6 February 2020, VA954 (1405 hours BNE down to SYD, B738 VH-YIJ) took off at 1500 hours with suggested arrival 1716 hours, 36 minutes behind.

With much rain around Brisbane and southeast Queensland (plus elsewhere in the state), VA742 (1400 hours OOL - MEL in the sky at 1524) has VH-VOS so will be about 65 late arriving in the balmy southern capital.

VA104 (VH-YIU, the 1615 hours WLG - BNE pointing skywards at 1638, only about five minutes late) should arrive at 1735, half an hour behind schedule. It was in a holding pattern a few minutes ago.

B738 VH-YIW on Thursday 6 February operated VA141, the 1000 hours morning SYD to AKL but according to VA's Twitter feed, it was unable to land 'due to a hole in the runway.' It diverted to CHC but then took off from there at 1705 hours, arriving AKL at 1810, three hours late. An unusual (and rather concerning) reason.

VA1361, the 0615 hours LST to MEL early bird on Friday 7 February took off at 0651 (approximately 20 minutes late) but had to hold east of Wonthaggi for quite a while so arrival looks like 0806 hours, 46 late for B738 VH-BZG.

The 0635 hours ADL - MEL (B738 VH-YVC) took off at 0719 so predicted at gate arrival has become 0904 hours, 39 minutes tardy.

Later on Friday 7 February, VA314 (B738 VH-VUG, the 0755 hours from a very wet BNE in the last 24 hours down to MEL) was in the sky at 0816 hours, only about five to 10 minutes late, but due partly to holding above Elmore, arrival at gate should be 1147 hours, 32 minutes tardy.

VA322, the 0955 hours BNE down to MEL took off at 1053, so B738 VH-VUU is arriving at 1409 hours, 54 late.

VH-VUK on the 1135 hours ADL across to MEL was in the sky at 1216. At gate arrival has become 1418 hours, 53 minutes tardy.

With lots of rain continuing around Sydney (and Brisbane), VA846, the Saturday 8 February scheduled 1400 hours SYD - MEL (B738 VH-YIZ) took off at 1505. Predicted at gate arrival has become 1620 hours, 45 minutes late.

As significant rain continues in and around Sydney, VA83, the soon to be withdrawn 1010 hours SYD - HKG took off at 1121. A332 VH-XFE should arrive at about 1805 hours, 90 late.

With much rain in Sydney, VA163, the 1030 hours SYD across to ZQN (B738 VH-YIG) was still taxiing as at 1237 hours so will be at least 105 minutes late arriving at its NZ gate.

VA484 (1250 hours MCY down to SYD, B738 VH-VUF) was airborne at 1332 (about 25 late) but arrival is forecast for 1555, half an hour behind.

In further on an extremely wet Sunday 9 February in SYD, VA1166, the 1620 hours from also very wet CFS to SYDF that took off at 1641 with B738 VH-VUT is arriving at about 1804 hours, 34 late.

The PER - SYD VA556 has B738 VH-YFN, taking off almost punctually at 1052 hours, 17 minutes after timetabled departure. Arrival should be at 1823 hours, 33 minutes tardy.

Later on 9 February, an extremely rainy day in Sydney, VA35, the 1715 hoursSYD - DPS took off at 1847 with VH-YIJ. Arrival is said to be about 2152, 67 behind.

Many aircraft are holding on approach to SYD with VA867, the 1700 hours MEL - SYD airborne at 1727 (only about 15 minutes late) initially doing racecourse circuits above Gunning and then in the second favoured position north of Goulburn. Eventual arrival is suggested as 1931 hours, 66 minutes behind schedule.

With the huge amount of rain SYD/BNE/OOL/CFS etc. have had in the last 60 hours, there continues to be many late flights although highly variable.

On Monday 10 February, VA827 (B738 VH-VUC) was airborne at 1018 hours so arrival should be 1132 hours, 67 minutes late.

VA1174 (0805 hours SYD down to AX) took off at 0950. ATR72 VH-FVZ should arrive at 1100, 90 late.

SYD had an incredible 162.8mm of rain in the 24 hours to 0900 10 February.

Later on 10 February, VA834 (VH-VUC) is the 1100 SYD - MEL not airborne until 1253 hours, so arrival is 1415 hours, 100 minutes late.

Continuing with Monday 10 February, VA1375 (1700 hours peak period LST - MEL in the sky 37 minutes later) has B738 VH-VUK with a 36 late, 1841 hours early evening arrival at gate the likelihood.

On Thursday 13 February 2020, VA811, VA815 and VA819, the 0700, 0730 and 0800 hours morning MEL up to SYD were cancelled. Fog?
