Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

With Queensland Premier Palaszczuk's disproportionate three day lockdown that will do big damage to the state's reputation as a place to holiday, and Victorian Acting Premier Merlino's declaration of Greater Brisbane under Vic's stupid 'traffic light system' as a 'red zone', it was obvious some flights would get culled.

SYD to BNE cancellations are VA939 at 1200 'high noon', VA957 at 1600 hours, VA965 at 1700 and VA973 at 1800.

Northbound also from MEL to BNE, VA309 at 0700 hours and VA329 at 1300 early this afternoon have been flicked. This leaves only three MEL to BNE VAd flights today at 1000, 1600 and 1900. two years ago, at a guess VAd would have had 10-12 MEL - BNE northbounds.

VA467 at 1035 WST from PER to BNE has also got the boot.

On Holy Thursday, 1 April 2021, it's no April Fool's joke that VA725, the 0610 hours MEL - OOL was cancelled.

So are VA313 (0800 hours MEL up to BNE) along with, on the same route and in the identical direction, VA319 (0900), VA321 (1000), VA341 (1700) and VA351 (1900 hours).

VA755 (the early evening 1810 hours from MEL up to OOL) has also got the flick.

Hard to imagine that two years ago, apart from the occasional failed aircraft or less likely at this time of year, weather-related disruption that there would have been many cancellations on what is probably the second busiest day of the year for our domestic airlines (in normal times).

Easter Sunday is not a typical Sunday: for some states, it's the long weekend marking the start of school holidays but it's also in the middle of two public hols.

VAd (like JQd) is continuing to cancel quite a few flights to and from BNE. This may reflect how the Qld Premier's Holy Thursday 1200 'high noon' announcement cancelling restrictions came too late for many leisure travellers who had already given their trip the flick.

On Sunday 4 April 2021, VA313, the 0810 hours MEL - BNE is cancelled.

So is VA931 (1000 hours from SYD north to BNE), and VA983 (1800 hours) and VA989 (2000 hours SYD to BNE),

From BNE down to SYD, VA916 at 0705 hours kicks off the southbound cancellations. VA946 at 1205 hours on this route will also not run.

VA464 (09915 hours long distance BNE - PER) is another to get flicked.

VA324 at 1055 hours late morning BNE - MEL has also been cancelled.

VA830, the 1000 hours morning SYD - MEL was cancelled on Sunday 11 April 2021.

So is VA1423 at 1530 this afternoon from SYD up to CNS.

VA695 (2035 hours MEL - PER) should depart at 2130.

VA303, first of the morning at 0600 from MEL up to BNE was axed on Monday 12 April 2021.

VA259 (B738 VH-VFX, the 0845 hours MEL - CBR) took off at 0930, about half an hour late, despite its previous flight VA204 (ex ADL) arriving in MEL only 10 minutes tardy at 0805. CBR arrival was 1020, half an hour behind.

The aircraft then operated VA1687 from CBR to OOL (a new routing for VA 2.0?) This 1030 hours flight was airborne at 1113 with expected arrival 1236, 36 behind. VA1690 at 1240 ex CBR, VA274 at 1500 CBR - MEL and lastly VA279/VA284 MEL - CBR and return are likely to be late.

Tuesday 13 April 2021 sees VA1139 at 1130 hours from SYD up to BNK getting the gong.

VA531 at 1620 hours from SYD to OOL is another not to operate.

VA321 (1010 hours midmorning MEL - BNE, Sunday 2 May 2021) is to be cancelled.

VA685 at just after lunchtime (1345 hours) from MEL to PER is also cancelled.

Not the best morning for MEL-PER passengers.
VA679 MEL-PER (VH-YFK) has a revised departure at 11 10, 175 min behind original schedule.
VA681 MEL-PER the 10 45 got cancelled

have a friend who was moved to the earlier flight with a revised departure

That leaves VAd with just three MEL - PER flights today.

Addtionally, on Sunday 2 May 2021, VA1423, 1530 hours midafternoon SYD - CNS has been cancelled.

VA938 (1005 hours BNE down to SYD) has also got the gong.

VA464 (0855 hours morning BNE to PER) is not expected to depart until 1055 hours.

Fog in Sydney (and perhaps smoke haze from autumn burn offs?) is causing many delays into SYD, which as usual will compound and take a while to recover from unless planes have significant timetabled gaps between flights later today.

VA916, the 0705 hours BNE down to SYD took off at 0739 with B738 VH-YIS and is estimated to arrive at 0923 hours, 43 minutes late.

The 0730 hours MEL - SYD, VA815, was airborne at 0751 with arrival for VH-YFS suggested as 0939 hours, 44 minutes tardy.

Continuing withn Monday 3 May, VA883 (1900 hours early evening MEL - SYD, B738 VH-YFY) took off at 2051 so delayed arrival looks to be about 2200 late tonight, 95 minutes tardy.

Forgot to mention that I had posted about the cancellation of my BNE-ADL flight VA1396 on 1 May less than 80 minutes before departure while I was in the lounge - Post in thread 'Adelaide dinner 1 May 2021' Adelaide dinner 1 May 2021
