Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

Adding to Thursday 8 December, VA1446 (B738 VH-VUF, 1115 hours from OOL across to ADL) did not take off until 1208, so arrival is likely at 1510 hours, 45 minutes late.

VA326 is predicted to be half an hour late into MEL at around the 1545 mark as this 1155 BNE - MEL flight (B738 VH-VOT) was in a hold above Tocumwal NSW at 1503.

VH-VUZ (B738) on VA1471 (1450 hours from LST to MEL) took off about 10 minutes late at 1517 but arrival is suggested as 44 late at 1639. A slow trip.

On Wednesday 21 December, VA1627, the 0955 hours tourist-friendly time SYD to AYQ did not take off until 1059. Arrival of B738 Vh-VUS should be 61 minutes late at 1301 early this afternoon.

VA346 (B738 VH-VUC, the 1755 hours BNE down to MEL that was airborne at 1909) should pull in to its designated gate at roughly 2234, 79 minutes tardy.

On Thursday 22 December, VA1405, the 1900 hours from ADL to BNE (B738 VH-YFQ) took off at 1955, so arrival is predicted as 39 late at 2134 hours mid this evening.

Friday 23 December's VA9315 from PER to ONS, a destination that may never have featured yet in these delay/ cancellation threads took off at 1113, about 70 minutes after its scheduled mid morning 0945 hours departure. The arrival of F100 VH-FNN should occur at approximately 1307, 82 minutes behind schedule. These intra-WA flights for both VA and QF seem to have pretty good punctuality as a rule.

In further on 23 December, VA585, the 1205 hours from PER across to MEL that took off at 1312 this afternoon should arrive at 1924, 44 late with A332 VH-XFE.

The 1610 hours SYD - ADL (VA428, VH-VUF, a ubiquitous B738) was airborne at 1725; arrival at its allocated gate should be at around 1847 in the early evening, 57 minutes behind schedule.

On Christmas Day, VA1483, the 1040 hours PER - BME took off at 1249; arrival is predicted for 1515, exactly two hours late. F100 VH-FNJ has the task.

The 1115 hours PER - KTA (VA1727, also an F100) was airborne at 1227; arrival should be at roughly 1426 hours, 66 minutes behind schedule.

VA1627 was a further casualty of the weather-related Ayers Rock airport closure this morning. Like its JQ counterpart, the SYD-AYQ flight turned back to SYD just shy of the SA border, with the return flight VA1626 also cancelled.

Also on Boxing Day 2016, VA180 (1530 hours NAN - SYD) should arrive at about 1905 hours, 45 late. VH-YOI is the B738.

Tuesday 27 December 2016 has VA274, the (exactly) mid afternoon CBR to MEL running badly late with ATR600 VH-VPI having taken off at 1738. Arrival should be at 1905, 150 minutes behind schedule.

Thursday 29 December 2016 has VA218 (B738 VH-VOM), the 1135 hours from ADL to MEL having taken off at 1213; arrival is predicted as 32 minutes late at 1357.

Longhaul VA1 from SYD to LAX (B773ER VH-VPD, the 1140 hours SYD to LAX did not take off until 1254, so same day arrival will be at about 0719 hours instead of 0630.

In further on Thursday 29 December, with the heavy rain and flash flooding in parts of Melbourne, it looks like MEL may have been closed for a while.

In an hour and 19 minutes between 1459n and 1618 hours, MEL (airport) had 42.6 millimetres of rain: tropical conditions like Jakarta or Manila!

VA1752, the 1120 hours from HTI down to MEL (B738 VH-YVD) took off a little late at 1147 but is arriving at about 1633, 73 minutes late after being held in the usual location above Tocumwal NSW. At 1620 it was in another hold above Bacchus Marsh, Vic as there was further Thor-like activity.

VA274 (ATR72 VH-FVY) is the 1500 hours mid afternoon CBR - MEL that was airborne only a few minutes behind schedule at 1525; it was in a hold above Mt Buller, Vic at 1623 and should arrive, weather permitting, at some time after 1701 hours, which is a minimum of 26 minutes late.

The 1600 hours MEL - SYD, VA859, has been cancelled, this being one way in which airlines recover from such storm delays.

VA1294 (the 1200 'high noon' CNS - MEL) was in the sky at 1226, only a few minutes late with B738 VH-YFQ. After being placed in a holding pattern above Tocumwal NSW and then taking a rather 'wriggly' route to MEL, the flight is estimated to arrive at 1737, 72 minutes late.
