Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

Later on 3 May, VA1531 (B738 VH-YVD, the 1005 hours midmorning HBA - SYD airborne at 1106) looks to be arriving at 1245 hours, 50 minutes tardy. Then plane had overnighted in Sydney, but unfortunately VA1528, its forst duty for today as the 0730 hours down to HBA did not take off until 0859. In turn, this will delay VA422 (1255 hours SYD - ADL) and its return VA427 if rosters are not changed.

VA164 from AKL to MEL, the 0630 hours on Friday 10 May took off at 0652, broadly on time but due to holding - quite usual for a Friday morning - B738 VH-YIW is likely to arrive at 0913 hours, 33 late.

On a pleasant day for ducks in MEL (rain at times, although winds are gusting to 50kmh at MEL), B738 VH-VUW on VA745, the 1420 hours afternoon MEL - OOL took off at 1526. Delayed arrival is likely at 1717, 112 minutes behind the schedule.

VA849 (1400 hours MEL up to SYD, airborne at 1524 with VH-YFR) should be at its destination gate at 1631, 66 late.

Southbound VA846, also the 1400 hours (ex SYD - VH-VUY) was in the sky at 1458. Its at gate arrival should be 1613, 38 minutes tardy.

Later on Friday 10 May, VA740 (VH-YIJ), the 1300 hours took off at 1554, more than two and a half hours late, so arrival is 1758 hours, 153 late.

VA850, the 1500 hours SYD down to MEL that took off at 1657 with VH-VOO should arrive at 1813, 98 late.

On Sunday 12 May, B773ER VH-VOZ is operating a 'ferry' (empty) flight from SIN (presumably maintenance) with its 1200 'high noon' departure meaning a 1212 hours takeoff, and likely arrival in MEL at 2210, 40 late.

B738 VH-YWE on the Monday 13 May 0905 hours CBR up to SYD, VA637, was airborne at 1010 so arrival has become 48 minutes late at 1043 hours.

VA1, the 0930 hours SYD - LAX (B773ER VH-VPH) did not take off until 1113 hours so forecast arrival is 0703, 58 late.

Earlier, this aircraft was only nine minutes late arriving in OOL at 1134 hours on VA733 ex MEL, but then its next duty, the 1200 'high noon' VA738 from OOL down to MEL did not take off until 1701 hours.

Friday 24 May 2019 finds VA357, the early morning 0700 hours MEL up to CBR not having taken off until 0810 hours with arrival at 0904 hours, 59 late for B738 VH-VUQ.

Later on 24 May, VA555, the transcontinental 0935 hours morning SYD to PER that took off at 1133 should arrive at 1410, 85 late with the comfortable A332, VH-XFJ instead of a cramped B737 or B738.

The 1420 hours MEL - OOL, VA754, departed at 1514 with arrival forecast as 1704, 39 behind for B738 VH-YFP.

VA859, Friday 24 May's 1600 hours MEL north to SYD was not in the ksy until 1652 hours, so B738 VH-YFN's estimated arrival is 35 late at 1800 hours.

The 1500 hours mid afternoon from BNE down to CBR (VA1220, VH-YFJ) was up up and away at 1629 so delayed arrival has become a suggested 1803, 73 late.

The 1500 hours OOL south to MEL, VA744, was airborne at 1744 with B738 VH-VFW. Arrival is forecast as 1808, 43 late.

Continuing with Friday 24 May, VA869, the 1715 hours MEL - SYD (B738 VH-VUR) was airborne at 1809 so will be at least 35 late arriving.

It's a north wind at MEL of around 41kmh gusting to 44kmh, so not quite as strong as earlier in the day, but by no means calm.

It looks like MEL is down to single runway ops that is never good at busier times for punctuality. From memory some airport document suggested that MEL tended to have such operating restrictions for part of a typical 60 to 80 days per year, but it's highly seasonal.

Delayed by holding on approach, VA866 from SYD down to MEL on Friday 24 May is arriving at 1906, 31 late with B738 VH-VUU. This is the 1700 hours that took off at 1721, only about five late.
