Virgin Australia Discover Gold (Status Match)

Finally gold proper. Do you get any physical cards/tags sent upon attaining the proper status after the status challenge?

Don't take this as gospel, but as I recall I didn't get awarded any of the paraphernailia until I subsequently qualified fully for next year in my own right (if my clumsy explanation mkaes sense). Funny thing is, my partner, to whom I gifted gold, got the complete set in the mail straight away!

Question - As part of Discover Gold, if one doesn't qualify for Gold/Platinum next year, what happens? Soft landing to Silver or to Red? Looks like, I won't be making enough to retain Gold ... my review date is 11/02 and I have got a heap of VA flights booked from 25/02 ...

As I recall they only usually bump you down one level, so my money's on silver.

Yes, that's when I came across, around March 2022 I think (?). And yes, I was able to confer gold upon my partner and indeed did so. 😀
Could you please let me know how you gifted your partner gold with this promotion?

I qualified for the Platinum fast track on VA.

Of course. I just phoned the guest centre and much to my surprise and delight it was all sorted in a few minutes. Of course, your partner will need to first have a Velocity account, but that's easy for you to arrange.

Caveat: I'm not sure whether this deal applies to the current Switcheroo offer (or whatever it is now). Not saying it doesn't, I genuinely have no idea. Definitely applied to Discover Gold though.

Not aware to be honest that it applies to current switcheroo offer. Don't recall seeing it.

Hi Everyone,
Is there a status match to Velocity Platinum, or only to gold. I'm QF platinum currently.
Cheers
I am QF platinum, went to gold immediately after getting the required points, including the platinum requirement of 200 point , 2 months later still waiting to get to platinum.
Also just flew from ADL-BNE, BNE-NTL.
Paid Virgin Flex fare and they delivered Scoot service through Alliance - absolutely woeful ( no food or drinks - just water: both flights).
“Discover Gold?” - “Yeh Nah!” Don’t waste your time!

That's the standard economy service on VA for Y. Sounds like QF will serve your needs better with the complimentary snack for (usually) higher fare.

Complementary cookie or something worse...and a lot higher in cost mostly. Rather have the cheaper fare and pay ten bucks for a virgin snack or the virgin lounge.

I did a check with random dates, ADL to BNE Mar 29, BNE to NTL Maer 31

Qantas fully flexible: $689 + $531 = $1,220
VA fully flexible: $475 + $339 = $814
Difference: $406

That buys you an awfully large number of Tim Tams.

Welcome to AFF @Ragmonster 🙂.

I'm in the same boat as you -. QFF plat, qualified for VA plat through the status match, waiting for it to come through. But I'm saving flying VA business, which I am getting for about the same or less than QF economy, let along business. Check out the various threads here and you'll see why I won't be going back.

I'm in the same boat as a few here - I've matched to the Switcharoo promo from BA and eligible for Platinum with a review date of 16 Dec 2020 - nothing showing yet at all for me regarding platinum status.

Into the 6th week now since my promotion review period ended. They’re really going to play out that full time allowance, it seems!

What odds on any of these upgrades happening without agent intervention? 🤓

Cheers,
Matt.

I'm in the same boat watching for the platinum status to roll in.
I did notice today my review period has changed to Jan 2024....

Given the language in the communicated terms, below with my underlining, it should be pretty easy to argue that the intent and offer was for a full 12 months of the Platinum status level; not 2-3 months of Gold after achievement, and then Platinum for the rest.

For some, this might mean forfeiting sectors or SCs earned between the end of the promo period and the actual upgrade to platinum, but we won’t know until the first few start to get upgraded. I won’t be accepting 10 months of a 12 month offer quietly.

· If you are a Platinum member (or above) with an eligible Frequent Flyer program and during your 3-month Switch-a-roo Discover Gold trial period earn 200 Status Credits on flights with a VA flight number operated by Virgin Australia, you will receive Platinum Status for a period of 12 months. Please allow for up to 8 weeks after your trial period for your Platinum Status upgrade to be processed and applied.

Cheers,
Matt.

Agree. Wondering, if one were to travel in that status-missing 10 week period, what status would be printed on the BP?
Gold. 2x economy-X purchased 😡

I’m going to need a lot of flights back- credited to my review date to keep towards return Plat …
