Virgin Australia launches 'coronavirus status extension' plan

I'm a bit confused by this too. I re-qualified on my status review date of March 20. I received an email yesterday saying that my review has been "extended by 1 year" until March 30, 2021. I still don't understand what this means. My account shows the SCs have indeed reset to 0. Do I get a 1 year extension, or do I just get a 10 day one?

I honestly don't think I would be able to make WP by next March given the travel environment over the coming year (where usually I travel enough to make WP *and* gift WP to my wife).

Basically the same as me, i had already re-qualified for GOLD on my review date of 23rd of march 2020. Three days after yours, so forgetting all this covid-19 drama i would of had another extension until 23rd of march 2021.

Got the email saying i have a year extension on my status for covid-19 and my new review date is march 30th 2021. So i got one week?? not one year. As with other with most of this year a write off i will not be able to fly enough to retain gold by March 30th 2021. I already have 3 sets of return flight bookings cancelled this year. I only just scrape into gold as is so i will have no hope. Have had no correction emails sent. My original undertsanding would be i would have a year extension and my new review date would be 23rd of march 2022. Thats how i read it should be.

I hope they fix this. I more than likely wont maintain gold otherwise.

My review date is mid May - I had already re-qualified, so the only thing of benefit I'll get is 70 SC's beginning of June.

I'm honestly not even caring about my VA status anymore sadly, although was very invested at the beginning of this thread :(

I sold my Ansett Elite card for $10 on ebay as I recall, years after the crash.

I'll hang out for $20 for the Platinum Velocity .. inflation, you know. :D

4 extra Complimentary upgrades granted!

Also, the first lot of 70 SC's for WP have landed - no use to me as I now have over 900 and I'll get another superfluous 70 in a month. Those I would get in June may be of more assistance.

AwardWallet today alerted me to an increase in Complimentary Upgrades of +4; I guess they'll somewhat replace those I'll have expire end of May. It is the first time I'll have had any of these expire (I have burned all 28 of these over the past seven years as a WP).

I'm in the same boat. I had comfortably re-qualified for WP status in November for a review date of June 14 2020. I would therefore have already been WP until June 14 2021 or thereabouts.

If it turns out the way you are describing it, I have earned significant SC's that are now meaningless because I would have got the extension anyway. I was at the point of nearly being able to gift WP.

I strongly feel that the earned credits should have 12 months added to their expiry date, and the existing balance should not reset at the end of the current periods.

Come on VA, do the right thing.

I don’t know what’s happened to me but despite being able to make Platinum on March 20th ... return flights I cancelled as Melbourne stopped crowds going to the football, I find that my required status points has been reset. I can only think this is due to the one year extension.

Essentially despite having 918 points my Velocity app says I need 375 to maintain my Gold reviewed Nov 2020 and 975 to obtain Platinum. I obtained Gold Nov 2019. Also didn’t get 35 status I got 20 on 1 April 2020.

So based on the information provided by Velocity online I’ve had to restart my status points, didn’t get a one year extension at all, and got less status points than I was meant to receive gratis?

Virgin / Velocity is a cluster ¥#%@ at the moment.

I guess I should be happy I got All my points to KF.

If Virgin survive I will be taking this up with them.

I didn't get an email - I went from Gold to Plat in Feb and have a review date of Feb 09 2021 - does this mean I'll actually get Plat until Feb 2022?

Thanks Jase - any idea how maintaining works now? I need just over 300 SCs to requal at this stage if by some miracle I attain those before Feb will I be Plat to 2023 or is there no point accumulating more SCs until after Feb 2021. I've got plenty of points to burn, assuming Virgin still exists after lockdowns are relaxed :P

The first lot of 70 bonus SC's lobbed into my Velocity A/c yesterday I hope VA hang in so that they are useful

As Mr J (who is Gold) will receive the 12 month extension, I changed our Family Pooling around on 1 April when I got the notification that I had been reinstated to Silver - too late apparently. The gift SCs for April have been backdated to an activity date of 1 April, so he received both lots of gift SCs, dammit. Oh well, at least I'll get the next two months, although whether they'll do me any good in the long run remains to be seen.

ETA: Just went back and checked the confirmation emails about the change to Family Pooling, and both clearly state that any activity on either account "from 1 April 2020" would go to my account, so might question it and see what happens.

Late last year I think Velocity gave SC's out for some reason and mine did the same as yours. I called and was able to get them to transfer to the other account.

Thanks for that. Not sure about calling them at the moment though, not sure what the call queues and their workloads are like at present, might have to email instead.

When I called it was quieter times but it was also a month or so after they posted.

Thanks - I might wait until after Easter as I'll have to call VA about two refund requests I've put in as well.

I think the bonus SCs are going to enable me to gift SG again, which could come in handy in the fullness of time all going well. It's still an IF of course. Given my own assessment date is July, still unsure whether I get a 12 month extension on Plat or not but presume I'll drop to SG myself come July 2021.

My partner made Platinum last week so I have no clue as to any extension and guess she will get the Plat bonus now instead of the Gold.
