Virgin Australia launches 'coronavirus status extension' plan

My partner made Platinum last week so I have no clue as to any extension and guess she will get the Plat bonus now instead of the Gold.

Doesn't look like it unfortunately - underneath the table showing the gift status credits on this page status-extension it says "You will be credited the above Status Credits based on your membership tier as at 29 March 2020"

I have been watching the mail to see if my partners Platinum upgrade card would turn up. So today was the day which feels kind of strange under the circumstances.

Virgin Australia has confirmed that paid VA Lounge members will also get an extension on their membership, but only for 6 months (same as with Qantas Club). This of course assumes the airline survives and the lounges eventually re-open.

As Mr J (who is Gold) will receive the 12 month extension, I changed our Family Pooling around on 1 April when I got the notification that I had been reinstated to Silver - too late apparently. The gift SCs for April have been backdated to an activity date of 1 April, so he received both lots of gift SCs, dammit. Oh well, at least I'll get the next two months, although whether they'll do me any good in the long run remains to be seen.

ETA: Just went back and checked the confirmation emails about the change to Family Pooling, and both clearly state that any activity on either account "from 1 April 2020" would go to my account, so might question it and see what happens.

Late last year I think Velocity gave SC's out for some reason and mine did the same as yours. I called and was able to get them to transfer to the other account.

It may be a moot point now, depending on what happens with VA and Velocity, but pleased to report that after emailing Velocity, they responded and asked for Mr J to send them a request as the SCs had to be reversed from his account, we did that and a few days later the 55 SCs have now been transferred to my account.

Not much good currently and maybe not ever but Mrs Jase and I both received our 70SC’s yesterday

Mine also turned up. Looks good on paper and agree that it's not much use.

I had already re-qualified for platinum before this was announced with a review date of April 9th, 2020.
My review date is now April 9th 2021.
According to the Velocity website it should add another year.
I know there are others in this situation. I was waiting to see what would happen once I reached review date. I expected April 9th 2022 as that's another year.
Has anyone else got any experience with this?

Presuming our status will be worth anything in the future of course. Fingers crossed for us and all the VA staff!

It's just a case of wait and see

MrsMac and I in the same boat. The cutoff for the extra year was 29 March, we are both early April reviews so missed the extra year. Annoying but it is what it is.

I don’t think that’s an issue as they will give you a complimentary year of whatever status you were. See my screenshot.

We were already requalified, so had another year coming up anyway.

honestly probably not even worth worrying about who knows what version of VA2 will emerge out of administration

Agree with this 100%.

The final 70 SC is going to put me in a position where I'm about 20 SCs off being able to gift SG (of course the value of which we don't really know). What would push me across the line is a retro claim for an HX flight in J from NRT to HKG last January, but I mean what are the chances? The claim was submitted 3 months ago, I mean VA and HX's system didn't really speak to each other at all so I'm not hopeful.

I put in a claim 3 months ago for a missing flight credit that hasn’t been acted on. I can’t be bothered chasing it in this climate.

As I had requalified for WP in April I decided I'd email Velocity & got an "extension" to 2021 I emailed them and asked if I could have the extension to 2022. They emailed back yes. So I now have a review date of April 2022.

IF the programme stays in place and they fly again or keep their alliances I am a happy camper!

That's good to know as my partner upgraded to platinum in april so got the gold extension so will see if they will extend it over to her new status level.

Hopefully we will get to use it soon as the holiday savings are starting to build up and she is now talking about spending it on things around her house.

Does your review date show that? This was the thing I was most curious about. They haven’t actually said it specifically anywhere else. Just that it will be an extra year from the review date but I had already re-qualified for platinum that was up for review in May. Now it just shows 2021 as the new review date.
