Virgin CBR-SYD flights restarting

VA2 have actually on some cancelled routes been booking people onto Qantas which much be incredibly painful but better than a pissed off for life customer!
Yep, I think all airlines are being extra flexible currently. A couple of weeks ago I witnessed some JQ pax shunted on to a VA flight in ADL

First 4 SYD-CBR flights in the morning are now selling for between $249 and $389...
I'll have to wander out to the airport to see them take off - just for the fun of it.

Looking at the CBR-SYD flights, the price is ok, but it's on a Link Saab340, so maybe not.

Saab, Dash, all noisy...

Remember when VA had the E170s that left a trail of burning money across the sky for the 26 minute hop to CBR?

E170s/E190s would've made 'some' sense for Virgin Blue (but operated by a regional affiliate). QQ or Cobham would've been the ideal operators for VB (DJ) for their first attempt at regional routes in the LCC config/service.

The E170s made ittle sense when VB became VA, and it's not surprising they flogged them off to DL Connection's regional affiliates.

Ironic that the model of DJ became so expensive when it became VA that they couldn’t operate E170/190s when QQ can operate them.

Postponed to 21 March 2022...
Damn, I'm impacted by this. No contact yet, but it was booked through QBT so I'd expect that VA will notify them and then they'll be in contact at some point in the future at their leisure probably far too late.

VA just cannot seem to make CBR-SYD work. I've lost count of the number of times they've sold tickets and then cancelled them/pushed back the start date on this route. :(

I've done this trip a few times via MEL while this route wasn't running, but I won't keep doing this for the sake of using VA when there are other options.

I’m not sure they will ever make it work on that route unfortunately.

Virgin paid top dollar for them. QQ has paid peanuts.

A 737/190 dual fleet probably makes sense however that ship had long sailed. Perhaps it’s still cheaper to now operate a -700/800 fleet vs a 190/738.

So frustrated. A short trip to Sydney in 2 weeks was based on the availability of these flights and I only just booked thinking that they wouldn’t be completely cancelling this close to departure and instead might just combine everyone onto the same plane and cut a couple of the scheduled flights, but not all. Well tonight I got a flight change notification and they seem to think that a suitable swap from the last flight home is to rebook on a 6am flight via Melbourne. Not going is not really an option so I guess it’s a case of flying with qantas on points (and missing lounge access since I have no qantas status but gold for velocity). Part of the joy of the trip was to use the last of that pesky flight credit from 2020 cancellations so I guess that’s back on my to do list again too!

They refused to rebook you onto Qantas?

Maybe a data point but on an ADL-SYD flight today the purser (SYD based) was telling pax in front the SYD directs to many places were being ramped up from end Feb.

May include CBR .. who knows?

The LAST Virgin fight out of Adelaide to anywhere yesterday was 1.40pm and had a wedding there, so needed to cancel it, and move to today. At least could use some upgrade Certs. Other later options yesterday all were gradually cancelled.
