Virgin Flyer 2-For-1 - Significant negative changes from Dec 1

The fare conditions at the bottom actually show the fare code. An 'S' on the end of that fare code generally indicates its a sale fare.

Ok - I called to tripled check the class & I was told that it is eligible for the 2 for 1 flights.

Now for the big question (SYD-ADL)

Either fly economy on Qantas, will have AA membership so have access to the Q lounge

OR

for an extra $150 (total for 2 pax) fly Virgin Business class

I've never flown business class, & unsure whether it's worth it for such a short flight.

Would it be worth it?

I'd go Business for the novelty factor but make sure you fly during a main meal service, not a snack service to ensure you get a proper meal. If you're flying at night and keen to have a few drinks its good fun - CSMs are usually very attentive.

Why is medhead being attributed as the author of the past two quotes?

Never flown business? Somehow I doubt that! ;)

Ive still got 4 sectors remaining that i was wanting to use to purchase flexis to perth (so that i can upgrade with points), but was not planing on doing this till sometime next year. Can i ring up and book flexis now and then just keep changing the date untill i am ready to actually fly?

I'm not sure about 'keep' changing the date - I read somewhere that there might be restrictions on the number of changes - but you certainly can book a flexi and action the upgrade, and subsequently change the date of travel.

I don't think any fees are payable, but you may have to cover fare difference. I would defer to those with a bit more experience in that.

I rang up to complain to Virgin Money about these changes.

I was satisfied with their response.

What did they have to say out of interest? I've only heard of people getting balance transfer offers so far - not a great incentive if you don't carry any balances.

I suspect everyone will get a different response based on the length of time they had had the card and the amount they used it but they were willing to negotiate the annual fee.

Only just got the card and didn't notice this change until the first statement came through. They have updated the Virgin Money site that you link to from Velocity Rewards to reflect the change.

I'll probably be cancelling the card, the $150 fee will kill off any advantage.

I'll keep using my NAB amex card without a cap and the $150 I easily make up for with the saving in Travel Insurance I get with the card.

Perhaps it's not so obvious but you don't have to carry balances to take advantage of a BT offer. Anyone would has a mortgage and offer account can save their mortgage interest rate on what ever money is in a BT @ 0%

Should be fine!
I was going to say....my payment was made up of travel bank and cc.
Not sure how you would go trying to make a payment for a 2-4-1 using travel bank alone?

Re-booked today. Just updating my experience. Originally told that I can't use Travel Bank, but then the agent scrolled down and said "yes" you can. She had trouble when she actually went to apply the payment, so put me on hold and came back all good. I had to pay about $16 difference on the CC.

Another point here, when I made my original MEL-PER booking back in April, the Flexi on the website was $399 o/w. Today, it shows as $410 o/w. For some reason, today's booking cost about $43 less - I'll take that :)

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

Totally useless for me from 1st December. I use it only for buying flexi and business fares

And I don't recall getting anything from Virgin Money in relation to the changes.

The notification was part of my last card statement...

OK... I have always used this for buying two-4-one business class seats, so this will almost be useless now...

Not happy VA!

Same here...

i'll second that.

Will be cancelling my card as this is the only reason I had it. Otherwise, I am sure I can find a better value card with better customer service.

maybe if we all cancel at the same time on 1st dec it will make the point ;)

My card has anniversary date of 30 November. Already used two sectors and as soon as I buy the next two, the card gets closed... Was thinking about it already, and this just made me do it...

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

So I'm wanting to book 2-4-1 Flexis more than 330 days out from Dec 1 (Nov 2014). If I book them this month while the 2-4-1 offer is still valid and then change them next month do you think I'll have to pay the full fare for the second seat (being the 'fare difference' as the new date is not available 2-4-1?).

I know there are no change fees and Im happy to pay any fare difference is there is one I just don't want to get stung with having to pay for the second seat.

Re: Virgin Flyer 2-For-1

I rang up today and asked about cancelling (my annual fee gets charged in a few days). They offered my 2000 points in December, and when I pushed back on that they offered half-price annual fee.

A few months ago I made it pretty clear that the only way I was sticking around was if they waived the entire fee. Which they made some noise about "the great value the card offers" and then did so.
Will make the same request next year!
