I booked a two41 today without major problems (this one was not a codeshare!) and the operator tried to charge me 2x fees again, but had it manually waived when I quoted the current website T&C (again). Only took about 50 mins this time!

So medheads booking took 35min, yours 50min and we're pleased????????

How about a class action against VA for the lost time $ value! ;)

Not pleased about the time taken but pleased that the booking worked roughly as expected, in my case.

Just to add to the mystery, did a two41 booking with the usual "oh, yes - it shouldn't be that high in price, let me fix that" and the total price ended up coming out less than the internet fare price (go figure...).

I'm convinced they have a Sabre prize wheel in the office that they spin and it determines what the booking experience outcome will be ;)

I'm happy with small progress - at least I was able to book my flight with only one phone call this time! ;) I'm still waiting for them to get back to me about the codeshare debacle last week (I emailed a complaint and was promised that someone would contact me to rectify the issue, but so far: nothing, as I'm sure you'll all be surprised to hear.)

Yeah, I had one of those last week too. I kept quiet.

Yup, just booked one the other day. Took about 45 minutes, but worked out a few dollars cheaper than the web price.

Got transferred to another department and upgraded them all to business. This part only took 5 minutes.

The most annoying thing for me, they have my velocity number, yet I still need to spell my name for them, spell out my address and email address etc etc. Surely their systems have this information and I just need to confirm it??

You are confirming it when you tell them the information. It is a positive confirmation. Much more secure than being asked is your name "wheelbarrow beginning with a H".

I didn't just say my name, I had to spell it. Then I had to spell my address, my email address etc etc.

I'm happy and completely understand that I need to state my name address etc.

"W-H -E"
"B for Bob?"
"No, E.. E for Elephant"
"oh ok"
"E for Elephant"
"yes, I got that"
"no.. another E"

You get my drift..

Yes I understood that you had to spell it. And I'm pretty sure that my post didn't mention just saying your name. In any case, spelling your name is an ID check. I like to spell out things because I don't speak clearly and it saves confusion.

Personally, if asked to spell anything I use the phonetic alphabet immediately. If they don't understand that I get huffy on them. But they usually understand because they use it to give out booking references.

How is spelling my name and address any more of an ID check than stating it?

It's a complete waste of time. If I say "i'm mr Wheelbarrow Hammer, I reside at 14 Shed Street in Backyard", they should just be able to look at the system and confirm if that matches what they have. Not respond with "can you please spell Shed Street for me"

Did I say it was any more of an ID check? NO!!! I just said it was an ID check.

The fact is, as per your post, spelling out your name is one way of confirming the information in their system.

But a stupidly painful way of doing it...

Just booked my first 2-4-1 in the Sabre world. MEL-BNE-MEL.

Sure enough the Saver Lite fare shown on the website for MEL-BNE was U class, but not a sale fare - instead this sector was booked in M.

If it had been U class the fare would've been $139...for M I paid $142...I wasn't going to get into an argument over it!

MEL-BNE-MEL for 2 was $326 with all fees. There was no attempt to double charge taxes. This booking on the website would've been $631. Close enough to still being 2 for 1 for me! In fact...in the old world it would've been exactly the same price as the per sector credit card fees would've made up the difference.

Funnily, at the start of the call she asked me how many sectors I had left for this offer as her system couldn't tell her...and told me she'd take my word for it! ;)

My last two 241 bookings have been long drawn out affairs, but the end result was worth the wait. VR calculators don't come from the same shop mine does! ;)

Does anyone know how these flights are invoiced? Do the 2-4-1 offers get invoiced as a 'full price ticket' and a a free one? For most work domestic flights I book and get reimbursed. I have some work trips coming up for Tasmania and WA in next few months and I was thinking of using the 2-4-1 to buy my ticket as per usual and give Mrs Grubbidok a free trip to tag along. Would this work?

They are invoiced as two 50% fares.

We have used the 2 for 1 when my partner has been travelling many weekends for work. We just explained that we had a companion fare offer and the expenses people / manager were happy enough with that and paid 100% of the cost which would've been incurred anyway. Might depend on the size of the company etc as to how feasible that is.
