Virgin LAX Lounge

So another month later and still no news from Virgin...

There has been 'news' has been on the Virgin Australia website for a little while...

Passengers on Virgin Australia operated international flights ex-LAX have access to the Virgin America Loft.
International Lounge Access | Virgin Australia

I'm willing to assume that the reference to the "Tom Bradley International Terminal T3" is an error by the web team at VA.

That's odd that the lounge is VX, yet it's the VA logo out the front.

I am confused!

So the old Alaskan Airlines lounge is the new VX lounge that VA uses ?

Yeah the old Alaskan Lounge changed to VA when Alaskan moved terminals. VAA was a temporary measure and VX now run and manage the space that was the Alaskan Lounge. It was closed for a little while for refurb to happen. They are still waiting on a liquor licence

I was there 2 days ago. Lounge staff said alcohol is definitely happening but no date as yet.

I got the card to go to "Gladstones" the fish restaurant downstairs which as others have stated entitles you to order any alcohol you wish, however the tip and any food you want must be paid for yourself.

The shuttle bus from Terminal 5 to Terminal 3 (I flew Delta from another US city) leaves from gate 52B in Terminal 5 but does not start until 5pm.

Ah so its still the same lounge with no alcohol and previous reports were of pathetic food offerings.

It's really disappointing!

Yes - same old lounge with the V red and purple revamp.
The food in the lounge consisted of a cheese plate, sushi and something else I can't recall which is of very poor quality.

Yup, I was in there last Saturday, still the same and the staff couldn't give a date for grog. Food is marginally better than when I was last there in July, and Wifi was working (albeit slowly and some convaluted log on process where you get a user ID and PW from the front desk that only works on one device...).

The temporary VA lounge has now morphed into the VX Loft.

I've not heard it being referred to as the "loft" before -- but a quick google for Virgin America Loft LAX found me this:
New application for VIRGIN AMERICA LOFT AT LAX | EveryBlock Los Angeles

Indicates they applied for a liquor license April 25 but it's still pending? (If it's in any way accurate)

</random potentially false news> :)

Edit: Here's a slightly more authoritative link, from the Californian dept of Alcoholic Beverage Control (CA ABC):
http://www.abc.ca.gov/datport/LQSdata.asp?ID=61796288

Only gives about the same amount of info though!

Ok, turned up at VX terminal and asked for the loft.... Oh that opens next week says VX staff.

Why does VA put that incorrect info on their website? It's not even open!

Were you trying to use it for a VA departure, or for a VX flight during daylight hours? It probably is open at the moment for evening VA flights, just as it was when it was the "VA Temporary Lounge."

The VX website makes no mention of a lounge at LAX so I wouldn't have expected access to be available for VX pax yet.

Ok, I've got it.... The VA lounge is open 4pm to midnight daily. I rocked up at 11am for a VX flight. Thus I assume It will be the loft in non-VA times? But it doesn't yet.

I am in there now. It is quite nice, but no no booze. Barman said the liquor licence had been granted and the place will benserving grog in a week or so. I can't bring myself to go downstairs to Gladstone's right now.

I know that California is world famous for its excessive regulation but taking upwards of seven months to grant a liquor licence to merely extend a service that had existed in the same place for several years seems amazing to me. Presumably the awarding of a liquor license is known by the state of California to cause cancer, maybe that slows things down?

I guess it's also possible that with VX applying for the liquor license, alcohol can't be served until the lounge is being managed/operated by VX. Just in case it causes cancer .

But yet they can give you a card that entitles you you to go downstairs and order vodka shots and beer chasers, which i am considering doing.
Apparanetly the bar will be running in a week.
