Oh. I just closed my Flyer card and are closing down my basic Citi Rewards next week, would i then have trouble going for the Qantas Premier card before the offer ends in June?

Hi GSP,
When did you apply for the Citi rewards? More than 90 days ago?

Just got accepted for the Flyer (the 60,000 VF points and $129 voucher was just too tempting) after 16 months in the Citibank cold and 2 previous attempts as well as a futile application for the Emirates Citi card. Was beginning to think they had my file marked. Anyway, now to navigate the ridiculous caveats around points earnings. I wish I could say I was glad to be back.

Quick question. Can the $129 voucher be used on any Virgin flight booking or must it be in the name of the person who gets the card?

Any booking. It is just a code. Is not associated with your name or account in any way.

I just had my final 40,000 bonus points transferred today, so 120,000 bonus points all up. This has actually been the most efficient bonus point crediting I have every had from a CC. They have posted on the exact same date of the statement each and every month, unheard of!

One other quick question. I have gotten the flyer card and been awarded the 60,000 points. Can I get apply for the High flyer card now and get the 120,000 points?

Current offers of 60,000 / 105,000 extended till June 30th.

I have a "friend" who applied for and was approved for the flyer,. That "friend received 4 * 20000 points = 80000 points. The friend did the spend for the first 3 months and received 20000 each month and only a couple of small transactions for the 4th month (the friends wife forgot to stop) and received 20000 points for the 4th month. The friend did a few more small transactions for the 5th month but wasn't so lucky. The friend then closed the account down.

I got caught out last month by the government spend not being eligible. Ergh. Anyone had any success in begging for a reversal or a "double or nothing" for the following month?
I have the normal flyer card.

Thinking of cancelling high flyer once month’s points arrive and applying for the velocity flyer. 60,000 points (spread over 3 months) will be good with a lower spend threshold.
Hey PDog. Did you end up doing this? I would have thought that you wouldn't be eligible for the new bonus as it is quoted as only applying to new customers.

Thanks

I don't believe you will as the terms and conditions state that it is only applicable to new Virgin Money credit card customers. I was hoping to do the same thing. I'm not sure what would happen if you cancelled the flyer card then applied for high flyer though. There might be a waiting period before you are considered a new customer again.

Not yet, as I’ve another offer we’re focusing on. Last year I applied for the HF 3 weeks after I cancelled the flyer.

Thanks

My guess is they'd give you the card then not give you the points...probably knowing you'll do the spend in anticipation.

Just to update, I applied and was approved for the flyer card this week. I cancelled the HF on the 24th of April, which I’d had since early October. I did also make sure 90 days had passed since my last application (ANZ Black, approved early Feb, I am keeping the ANZ till the end of this month while the bonus is on & there are rates to be paid!)

Fingers crossed this time next month the first instalment of points will have landed! Am reasonably confident as it was fine last year.

I've got a story to share!

I'm on statement 3 of my High Flyer. I received my bonus points in the previous 2 months, but not this month even though by my calculations I had made the minimum spend

I checked my statement and found 2 discrepancies:
-previous 2 months 'statement period' was to the 20th of the month. My May statement is showing to 20 May, but my online account showed the statement calculation done on 18 May
-I had a Hawaiian Air spend of $1,500 made on 16 May which wasn't included, meaning I didn't meet the minimum spend criteria

So I rang the 13 number (which was answered immediately at 7.30pm) and calmly laid it out as "I think you've made an unfortunate mistake, and I missed out on my bonus points".

The CSR agreed with me (!!) and was even sympathetic (!!). She said it wasn't my fault and that they would manually adjust the bonus points earn on my next statement, confirming I would indeed received 40K bonus even though my bonus months have ended with this statement. I thanked her but did say I was finding it difficult to believe that it would be sorted out so easily, so she gave me her name and ID number and said if I have any issues next month that I should ring and give them those details

I am cautiously optimistic....
