Just to update, I applied and was approved for the flyer card this week. I cancelled the HF on the 24th of April, which I’d had since early October. I did also make sure 90 days had passed since my last application (ANZ Black, approved early Feb, I am keeping the ANZ till the end of this month while the bonus is on & there are rates to be paid!)

Fingers crossed this time next month the first instalment of points will have landed! Am reasonably confident as it was fine last year.

Further update (sorry to keep quoting myself!):
First statement arrived this morning and bonus points credited also. Since April last year I have had (in order) the virgin money, the high flyer & the virgin money and bonus points have arrived for each (60k, 120k & first instalment of 20k towards another 60k)

When do points show up in internet banking with this card? When they are swept to your velocity account at the end of each statement period or are you able to follow how many your earn after every transaction ala AMEX? I’m guessing it’s the former but looking for confirmation.

Each statement period they will appear, unfortunately that was one of the more frustrating things with this cards, not being able to track points per spend until the end of the month so if you are not careful you could easily miss out on the bonus points

I've got a story to share!

I'm on statement 3 of my High Flyer. I received my bonus points in the previous 2 months, but not this month even though by my calculations I had made the minimum spend

I checked my statement and found 2 discrepancies:
-previous 2 months 'statement period' was to the 20th of the month. My May statement is showing to 20 May, but my online account showed the statement calculation done on 18 May
-I had a Hawaiian Air spend of $1,500 made on 16 May which wasn't included, meaning I didn't meet the minimum spend criteria

So I rang the 13 number (which was answered immediately at 7.30pm) and calmly laid it out as "I think you've made an unfortunate mistake, and I missed out on my bonus points".

The CSR agreed with me (!!) and was even sympathetic (!!). She said it wasn't my fault and that they would manually adjust the bonus points earn on my next statement, confirming I would indeed received 40K bonus even though my bonus months have ended with this statement. I thanked her but did say I was finding it difficult to believe that it would be sorted out so easily, so she gave me her name and ID number and said if I have any issues next month that I should ring and give them those details

I am cautiously optimistic....

Well blow me, it worked! I received my last lot of 40K points in the fourth month without having to call them again (and then there was an issue with some past merchant terminal so they cancelled my card, but that's not the point)

Has anybody had any success in getting a supp card for no extra charge? Seems ridiculous that they want $89 for one!

I applied for the Low Flyer card a couple of days ago, and am currently sitting at "Conditionally Approved". Like everyone else in this thread, now to work what to put / not put on the card. Having held and used the Citibank-backed Qantas Premier card for the best part of a year until I cancelled it a couple of months ago, I know from personal experience that the following don't count: ACT tip fees, MyWay card auto topups and payments to Icon Water. In the case of Icon Water, a small test payment worked, so I put the next payment on it, which also paid points. But the quarter after that, no points. That was the catalyst for cancelling that card.

tldr; Past performance is not a guaranteed indicator of future performance.

Frustrated - missed out on our first 20,000 points (Flyer card). A few transactions that would have put us over $1500 spend were "pending" and not "billed" on the statement. I was expecting a slightly later statement date as it took a few days for the card to arrive, but the statement month seems to have been based on the card approval date. I think this will just have to be put down to "one of those things" and learn from it. Will be sure to hit the mark for the remaining 2 months, with days to spare. Still 40,000 points and $129 credit for the $64.00 fee isn't too bad.

I’ve just cancelled my standard Virgin money card, which had my wife as an additional card holder.

Thinking of signing her up to the High Flyer for the 120,000 bonus - has anyone had any experience in whether a recently closed additional cardholder would be considered a new customer?

No experience with additional cardholders, but can I encourage you to read the last 10-20 or so posts?

just some questions
1. Are minimum spend per approval date for statement because carnt the first statement be less then the 55 days?
2. If I've got a citi card now for the 100k bonus points, should i apply for the virgin flyer card then cancel the other card if they ask if citi has a issue with my current credit limits because i will close the citi platinum card anyway.

4.Westfield gift card will work for minimum spend(they are both eftpos cards)?

Yep had a look through that, and with your experience I'm probably looking to apply again in a few weeks as well. Was more wondering if my wife was to apply that she'd be considered a new customer straight off the bat. 120,000 on the High Flyer is still up for grabs until 2 Sept at this stage so not a great rush just yet.

Hi I'm not an authority on this issue but your wife being an additional card holder does not make her a customer. You might have requested her name on the card but its just an extra card on the same account with a different label, you could have used any name or word and it wouldn't matter. Her identity is never verified and her credit history not even examined. She would have to be a new customer if she signed up for her own account, I would be very shocked if she is excluded.

Looks like the Flyer Card Promotion is back on again ($64 Annual fee for 1st year, $129 Travel credit and 60k Virgin points with $1.5k spend per month for 3 months). It disappeared for a while.

The High Flyer is 80k for $3k spend over 5 months @ $289. Not great value there I think.

Offer valid until 2 September.

I might go back for the Flyer card again.

Do you have to spend $1500 a month for 3 months, or can you just spend 4500 in the first month and still claim the points?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Do you know if purchases towards a holiday count as Eligible Payment ie: Accomodation/Transportation etc..

Probably. Whilst there is a list of things that don't qualify I can't see how this one would be. I know train tickets (Metro Trains or Opal) I think are a bit suss, but I think your use of Transportation is different.

As an aside, I applied for the Flyer again yesterday. And an FYI for anybody, I rang up first to check on my eligibility on getting the points due to closing the exact same card a few months back. They said no problem, just so long as it was outside the 1 or 2 month period (I can't remember what they said) where they keep the card not fully closed in case you change your mind after cancellation.
