Virgins Pie In the Sky suggestions (new menu coming)

Would they like a pie or would they share a noodle salad? With some M&M's of course! Your three year old might like some cheese and biscuits I have heard good reports about them with young kids on Virgin

Both the kids loved the PLAIN beef pie on our last trip here (Perth) a couple of weeks ago, but now with mushrooms forget it. Both of them would rather have a ham and cheese sandwich than chips or biscuits.

The menu seems have gone upmarket. From where I'm sitting it seems people just want some basic food so long as the quality is good.

The number of food items offered seems to be inversely proportional to the number of times Luke Mangan is now mentioned. I mean seriously, they put his name against a fruit juice???

Really piss poor effort from Virgin Australia in relation to no reply to this thread. Would've expected more from them. ALso next thing you know it will be LM brewed coffee and tea!

Had the club sandwich today which was quite nice, however, I have to agree, not a good change in regard to variety, and I was looking for the other menu page as well.
Maybe the volume of flexi passengers has reached a level where a large variety of purchase onboard items is not viable.. Maybe its time to ditch pay per use and go full service if thats the case..
Maybe that is whats coming, who knows

why not make domestic just like long haul international - full service, without the cost?

I see that there is a fair amount of 'mushroom haters' on AFF. Maybe VA should have kept the plain pies so that people could have a choice?
(Me, l love mushrooms!)

There are also quite a number of people who have allergic reactions to mushrooms. I hope this addition is clearly noted on the menu, as the result could be severe if unable to seek medical help in time.

Me I loved the pie, Mushrooms eeeek no thanks, I cannot stand the things, even pick them out of my carbonara like a naughty child does. This is so dissapointing, however food is not all the flight is about,

wow, that is embarrassing Virgin....

We want an explanation ASAP because this is just disgraceful.

Disgraceful that they did something they're allowed to do?

Just because someone does something you don't like or agree with does not make it disgraceful:

disgraceful |disˈgrāsfəl|adjectiveshockingly unacceptable : a disgraceful waste of money | [with clause ] it isdisgraceful that they should be denied unemployment benefits.

I wouldn't call this 'shockingly unacceptable'. Disappointing perhaps.

Depends on your food preferences and how often you fly DJ, I would use those words.

You know what would be great? A couple of different pies to choose from - the pies are popular take the hint!

You don't ask for much :P

Keep in mind, these are having to be stored/served from a 737. The galleys are simply tiny and they wouldn't have the space to store a vast array of hot options.

Having one pie is plenty. Alternate them every 6 weeks or so sure, but I don't see them ever doing different pie options. A few different food options is plenty for their shorter flights (based on the understanding they will be putting the 330's on the transcons as they come online).

I've always preferred a decent meal in the lounge/food outlet in the terminal than chance it with airline food.

On a sub-3 hour flight, I can quite easily cope with a beverage or two and a light snack. Just my 2c of course:)

drewbles, I hear what you are saying, and you're right, but come on....they took away our G&Ts!!!! *sobs*

Yeah but it was *cough* G&T. ;)

Give us Tanqueray and Tonic (specifically, a mini of Tanq, and a can of Schweppes Tonic) and i'll be a happy chappy (even QF doesn't have that; it's god-awful Gordons!).

Well in certain places they do serve Tanqueray 10!!! ;)

Everyone just needs to look a little deeper into the decisions VA are making regarding the menu and onboard service.

VA are in a different position to say QF with regards to their 737s and galley space and service. VA will shortly introduce Business Class on 737. They will also continue to offer the Flexi meal offerings, as well as the PAYG service. Straight up, they have had a massive issue with galley space. They have had trouble delivering on their retail menu with items constantly unavailable due to the galleys not being able to hold enough spare stock.

Some flights can have up to 100 flexi passengers onboard - each of those meal trays takes up a lot of galley space. It also was a huge strain on the Flight Attendants who were continually running out of time trying to deliver each meal tray with a drink, then return to the galleys, set up new carts and return to the cabin to conduct the PAYG service, all before the specific time in the flight when they must pack up and prepare the cabin and galleys for landing etc. Hence the reduction of the menu. This new reduced menu has freed up a huge amount of galley and cart space, and allows for more of the items on the menu to be in stock onboard. It also reduces the time it takes for the crew to complete with service - they've changed to already brewed tea and coffee in the pots as opposed to indivual saches etc which takes time preparing for each person, same with the hot chocolates, pumkin soup, cappacinos etc, each of those takes that little bit of extra time to prepare.

They've been told that this is phase 1. Phase 2 of this reduction project is expected around December. What more can they possibly cut from the menu though? .....This airline will be full service by years end. They are doing it gradually, so as not to cut off those passengers who have flown them in the early days etc.

They've also had communications about a new inflight service being offered on a specific route from later this month. This will be a full service route. Think Cityflyer. One would assume it will be the first of more to come. VA dont seem to have officially released this announcement to us public yet so I wont comment on the particulars - but it is sign of whats coming, and great news in my opinion!

For what it's worth, my info has come from a friend who is crew for the airline.

Wine or Pure Blonde? Is that it?
Jeepers! Pure Blonde is rancid.
Will miss my one indulgence that I normally don't have - Bundy and cola with lots of ice.
