Volcanic Ash flight disruptions June 2011

Have been advised that QF 9 is taking the long way and flight time is almost 11 hours (usually 8). Wonder what the flight path is?

My guess is that it will head east, then north to around the latitude of Brisbane, then northwest from there.....

Qantas is expected to hold a media conference in Canberra, where many Qantas executives are stuck today.

Expected to start at 1530 Sydney time. Will be broadcasted on sky news.

Qantas have just advised no flights from Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra tomorrow.

Oh dear.

Excuse my ignorance....why are international flights taking off from SYD but DOM are cancelled?

Something to do with FL or alternate flight plans able to be used?

I had to do a family pick up from AC33 tomorrow morning in SYD. Got a call at 315pm saying they were stuck in YVR for the foreseeable future. I wonder how they'll go with the backlog?

Got to go to NZ on Monday myself, hope it's clear by then.

Alan Joyce speaking at the National Press Club tomorrow 12.30pm....great timing.

Qantas PR just announced he made it to CBR on the last QF flight...of course.

Well I just called and rebooked from Wednesday night to Thursday morning for my SYD-ADL flight. Relatively painless, but I have slight concerns about how the flight status search is not showing my original flight as cancelled.

There isn't any difference really for the international flights from SYD. They have cancelled flights from 3pm, this seems to apply to all flights. 3 international flights have been move to depart early. A couple of inbound flights have diverted or been delayed.

British Airways 10 to Bangkok is about to take off via Brisbane, planned 18,000ft.
Funnily enough there are another 5-6 Internationals still to land in Sydney this afternoon.

Have been advised that QF 9 is taking the long way and flight time is almost 11 hours (usually 8). Wonder what the flight path is?

The lucky folks on QF9 will be taking an 11 1/2 hour flight instead of the usual 8-9 hour one, heading as far east as 700km of the coast Sydney, before turning North towards Brisbane. Typical of a few other Melbourne northbound internationals.

Saw earlier today that Olivia Worth quoted saying that QF will not fly near the ash, but have seen some internal documents today saying they have planned as close as 200km away from the predicted area... Interesting.

Well my PER- MEL was cancelled this afternoon - rebooked for 6am Wednesday.

Have now been informed there are no flights from PER-MEL tomorrow (Wed), so have been rebooked for Thursday.

I kinda like Perth, but...

... but glad I was able to rebook accom, hire car, parking etc...

Can't wait for the pilot's strike... it'll be a breeze!

How to make sure you get a flight home... Not sure what's goin' on with that.

I guess QF are covering all bases trying to get you back home..quite often with schedule changes etc they will book dupliacte or "holding" flights.
