Phew! I counted myself lucky to squeeze my trip SYD-ADL last week!

OJT (QF64) is behind OQG (QF32) inbound to Brisbane, apart from that the skys are pretty quiet in BNE since the golden triangle has shutdown!

There are not going many hotel rooms left in Brisbane tonight with two (or is it three) major flights diverting there today. Wotif showing the central Brisbane pretty much all sold out.

Heard something taking off on East-Westrunway thru Inner West at approx 9.30pm.
first plane i've noticed since early afternoon.

Just got another text to call QF about our 7am rebooking on Thursday.
When she (Michelle) answered and I asked what had changed from 7 hours ago, and she apologised and upgraded both of us to J!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess there is a silver lining in the volcanic cloud somewhere

I'm confused...
I'm ("stuck") in Adelaide in my comfy suite at the Intercon and faced with a decision for tomorrow for me and two of my staff travelling with me. I welcome AFF opinions as to best options.

QF website says flights out of here are resuming after 1300 - we are re-booked on 15.40 to MEL and 16.55 to SYD

I took the early precation today of hopping on Q.com and securing a reasonable price on a rental car for 2 days (drop off in SYD). An hour later they went up to circa $900 per day then another hour - all 12 cars in Adelaide had been booked out ;)

We can all hop in the car early AM and head to Melb, prob arrive late arvo, then my Sydney guy will rest up before driving up the Hume, he should be home sometime late Thursday.

If the 220300Z ash map is correct (shows the ash clearing the east coast) and Q.com is to be believed, our flights currently show as still going.

Do I sit tight in the morning or bite the bullet and hit the road?
(I'll tally the votes from the AFF massive and go with the majority as I'm 50/50 :) )

:??:

If things pan out as per latest QF update and SYD flights open at 2pm tomorrow, how long will it take to clear the backlog?

My boss & family is on QF31 to LHR, . Will the incoming flights still depart Asia and LAX ports overnight and divert to BNE or another city?

Times like this I feel for the average traveller stuck in a foreign airport, confused, tired, having to wait it out without VIP treatment of lounges or priority rebooking.

Most importantly, as long as all this ****e is clear by Sat arvo so I can get my MEL-SYD flight to see the Pies give the Swannies a footy lesson at Homebush

I had a fun filled evening getting myself back onto the original flight tomorrow night SYD-ADL. Bit of a waste being on the ball this afternoon and moving to a Thursday flight. It is a bit strange that I can't use OLCI, apparently I need a medical clearance and need to see the service desk. But meh, really. Sean on the phone tonight was great. But I'm a bit peeved that I've got no phone calls or sms from Qantas either this week or last week.

Just looking at the most recent VAAC prediction, I'm confident that the flights will go from Sydney tomorrow afternoon. So I wouldn't be driving a car ADL-MEL-SYD, personally.

Also I know it is a bit slower, but I did look at the trains and there is a connection in MEL between the ADL and SYD trains - not a long connection 30 to 60 minutes.
