Volcanic Ash flight disruptions June 2011

Been on the phone to QF for nearly 1 hour and counting, and I'm not expecting someone to say 'Welcome to Qantas, this is xx_XX' anytime soon :(

Was originally booked onto QF1011 to go home tomorrow (After having already being stranded for a week mind you ), when QF1011 was cancelled they automatically put me on QF1013, now its changed back to QF1011 for some reason :?: :-|

Hoping for good news, but have learned not to expect anything at this stage....

Do you have something in your FF profile maybe for international flights like a CPAP?

Yeah, I did try to set that up, but then asked for it to be removed. I thought it might be related, but also it shouldn't be related. No big deal just a bit strange that I've never seen this before with normal bookings.

Just a bit of a joke... Whoever did this is a legend:

I'm sorry but I don't find that even the slightest bit amusing, all the teams at Virgin Australia and Qantas are under enough pressure to get people on their way and keep them happy as it is, they don't need [insert appropriate word here] like that clogging up the communication lines :-|

The word is Troll and QF need to learn that if they are in social media then they shouldnt feed the trolls.

Currently in Jeddah with a Looooong flight home to SYD tomorrow arriving Thursday night so hoping this is all clear by then...

Slightly funny. But pathetic to the max. What did it take, like a week to think of that? Too slow for such an average joke.

That is totally stupid... Facebook should ban whoever did that.

Jokes aside, apart from people missing work meetings and the like, there are people who cannot get to ill (terminally ill?) friends/family, funerals and other such events. Not to mention those suffering in Latin America.

Some people really need to grow up...

Was supposed to fly NTL-BNE at 4:35pm today, to spend the rest of the week in the office up there. Didn't find out the flight was cancelled until I got to the airport. No notification from either QF/JQ or Amex Travel (our corporate travel organisers), which was very annoying. Still haven't heard from any of them

So, with both NTL and SYD out of action, I had a choice between driving to BNE, hanging around NTL for a day or two hoping for a flight, or driving back down to WGA to work the rest of the week at home. I took the last option. Looks like I could have waited it out now. Of course if I had hung around NTL, the ash cloud would have hung around for 3 or 4 days.

Well I'm gonna try for the 6.10 am PER-MEL on Wednesday - arrives 11.45am - Melbourne 'opens' for flights from 11am...

...let's see how it goes!

Have had one text from QF- this afternoon- and nil else. FCM have been good- not proactive, just able to waitlist and book ahead.

QFF Plat desk was easy to deal with and answered after 1 minute.

It doesn't appear to be real, just something someone made up along the lines of others fictional threads on facebook such as Osama and the CIA, US and Japan in WWII,etc

Somehow I wouldn't be in a rush to beat home bush this Saturday weekend. It's the upset i havepicked!

must admit, if the swans are paying more than $5, I'll be putting a few bob on them. Most teams seem to lose after the bye for some reason :(

Emerites A380 just took off over the inner west of sydney
and also a Thai flight.
haven't seen the Singapore A380 as yet. but it was late yesterday

Refund for flights

Other than joining the line on the phones is there any way to arrange a refund for flights cancelled today? I do not need to rebook as the reason I was going will be over by the time flights get back up.

The Text messages just gives the phone number and no other information.

Thanks

...
Then at the end of the week, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce sent an email to the Qantas’ eight million frequent flyer customers, trying to justify the decision by Qantas to ground many of its aircraft while all other airlines were flying and implying that airlines like Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia were operating unsafely.

What Alan omitted to mention was that it wasn’t just Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia that had managed to adapt their operations to operate safely in clear air, but all airlines apart from Qantas and Jetstar had managed to achieve the vast majority of their operations. What Alan also failed to mention was that Qantas was very happy to transfer thousands of its customers onto Air New Zealand and other airlines’ services, which seems a strange thing to do for your customers if you have concerns about the safety of the airspace. ...

Take that AJ!

Take that AJ!

*like* (sorry on phone)

Begs the question... What is truly important?...

Safety of passengers and crew?

Safety of the fleet?

Safety of the records & costs?

or perhaps just maintaining Perceptions of safety?

It's a bit rich to say we won't fly our planes in this mess, but gladly put our pax (and our staff) on board someone else's craft.

I have NO expertise in this area so I won't begin to claim understanding of this situation and whether or not it was a good/ok/bad call, but trying to come across superior under the guise of safety first is a bit much considering the real story.

Kudos Air NZ for not letting AJ get away with that one ... :)
