Water Levels Rising In Brisbane CBD

Looks like EMQ have a remote sensor craft up as part of the 21 active choppers, there are smart cookies in the Government at last, though I bet the police are wishing they had an air wing, the confusion around Caboolture yesterday should not have happened as clearly the people on the ground lacked the support they should have had.

I gave up trying to get to Toowong after a couple of hours without success.

I've seen photos of Milton all under water (where Suncorp Stadium is), including Milton Maccas, so not suprised things that will happen.
I was walking around Coronation Drive and Milton Road for an hour or so. Everywhere you turn and there are dead ends. Walked all the way up to the xx_X brewery only to find another dead end and then walked back home the long way.

It is unbelievable how far up the water has gone. It is halfway up to Paddington and that is no joke. Officeworks, BP, McCafe and some other businesses are partly under water. Luckily Kennards self storage is on stilts otherwise that would be under water as well.

Anna Bligh just mentioned in a news conference that are investigating destroying The Island in place. That'll be an interesting job for someone. The Moggill ferry is in danger of breaking loose too, apparently (although I only caught half of that announcement).

They're also thinking of sinking the Moggill Ferry... Like I said earlier, the Island really won't be missed, except by the people mention by Anat0l earlier.

Have been on it once (for a 21st), and it was very tacky. And the worst thing is that you're locked on the ferry until it docks again (About 2 hours IIRC).

Would be great if you could expand on this. I work in an ESO in Vic and know a little about fire aviation but nothing regarding large scale floods.

Does the same principles apply or is it more ad hoc. With fire it is all about patterns and single entry and exits of those patterns.

As an aside a mate works for DMO says they are trying hard to get some Bushmasters ready to roll from the vehicle store with 6RAR at Enoggera. The damn things can swim and ford up to about 6ft of water.

Yeah - early this morning my ground floor office in milton had water a metre and a bit up the 2 metre driveway. I strongly suspect we're now one of those businesses with water all the way through...

Its a chopper with a full suite of vision capabilities that can stream night/day/thermal data back to a command point with geo-reference data so those looking at the stream know where they are looking, a typical installation will have multiple sensors in the one package such as 640x480 InSb thermal imager, a High-Definition daylight camera, and a lowlight Electron Multiplied CCD imager. Pretty much your eye in the sky scenario with sub meter resolution.

It wont fit under the go-between or other bridges AFAIK.
But is "home pontoon" is the Cultural Centre Pontoon, in front of the State Library, so that is already down-stream of the Go Between bridge. The only bridges downstream from there are Victoria Bridge, Captain Cook Bridge, Storey Bridge and Gateway Bridge(s). If it can't get under Victoria Bridge then its going to be a pretty boring 3 hour "cruise". That is assuming normal river levels, not elevated levels as experienced now. Then again, I have not even been on board myself.

I thought it was at Riverside Drive, it was in 2007 and I am pretty sure I saw it there last week! Could be wrong, it looks different to the boat that used to be below the casino.

It ties up at Riverside Drive, but pax embark/disembark at the pontoon at the Cultural Centre. Sadly, I have been on it, and it can fit under all the bridges. Under the water would be an appropriate place for it.

Their web site lists Cultural Centre Pontoon at the State Library as where they dock. But its obviously not driving anywhere in these conditions and may not party any more.

I doubt it would fit at the moment, if they are running engines I am sure it would have been moved when it could.

ABC just showed some aerials of riverside drive etc, the Island is at its mooring and Oxleys roof is visible only.

Received an sms earlier that the office is closed tomorrow and more than likely Friday as well.

Looking at the footage on TV the water levels appear to have risen in Milton with parts of Suncorp Stadium under water. A lot of those waterfront properties have the basement and lower levels under water as well. Noticed earlier people walking in the streets with bags and pillows.

the last vision of suncorp was only about 12" of the goalposts sticking out of the water. there was someone paddling a canoe on it though

Two of my friends who are in the Army in Brisbane have been called into work tomorrow. A third has been called and asked if he's ok but not called in. Job's on.

Pardon my ignorance as I don't get to Brisbane often and I'm hoping some locals can advise on the geography, and how it might affect plans for the weekend.

I was planning on staying at Redcliffe (Sat - Mon), and there is little mention of the situation there on the EMQ and other relevant websites- given all reports, I'm strongly considering canceling the trip so as not to 'get in the way' of people trying to mop up and get on with their lives after a distressing situation.

Could anyone advise if Redcliffe is accessible via the main roads from the airport and, given the general conditions, would it be better for locals if interstate visitors stayed away for a while longer?

Thanks:)

I evac'd from South Brisbane and am currently with family. I had the choice of remaining there, but with the ground floor of where I was set to flood quite heavily tomorrow morning (and I was pretty sure they would force a total evac around 2am/3am) - getting out was the better option.

Possessions etc are all accounted for and should remain safe.

Am ok, and planning to head to work tomorrow! Keeps me occupied and busy :)

-- Oh, and also I don't own any property in South Brisbane, nor do I rent long term there, so it's not really an issue for me.

It is moored generally at Riverside Drive and was there when I went past earlier tonight. It used to be moored under the Riverside Expressway (near the casino). Have heard that it will be sunk tonight, almost want to go watch it happen (but there are no safe vantage points at the moment).
