Wendouree allocations and general discussion

I'm feeling brave and might crack open a bottle of shiraz mataro tonight...eeek

I've also sent Lita and Tony a letter asking for another form to order another couple of cases. I think 4 cases aren't enough.

Like many others I'm keen to hear your thoughts on the SM.

Is it this years vintage?

Have you had any of their SM before to compare against?

Confirmed my suspicion - too young, I've ruined it :( yes it's this year's vintage and haven't had any of their SM to compare. Medium body, love the nose, let me polish the rest of the bottle and shall get back here.

I cracked open a '12 and a '13 SM earlier this year and didn't regret it (particularly on days 3 and 4). Both were medium bodied, displayed fine tannins and bright fruits.

Maybe leave it 24, 48 hours?

I would never recommend someone buys Wendouree on a drink now basis.

Every one of the current vintage is recommended not to be opened until at least 2020. I would say not until 2025.

If you can't wait then this is not a wine for you.

But I've also heard of people who mix red wine with coke. So go for it if that's your thing.

Wheres the fun if you can't open one out of a 24 bottle purchase to try? While I wouldn't dream of touching a shiraz or cab sauvignon early, I've enjoyed sampling a small number of the shiraz mat / shiraz malbec over the past 3 years, having personally found them reasonably approachable.

If you do have more than 3 bottles, doesnt hurt to try it now and then. i dont usually open a new purchase straight away, few reasons, wine just got delivered, let it rest for a few days . some wine releases a year or 2 after bottled, i won't be touching them anytime soon, maybe a 3-5 years rule for those kind of wine. thats just my own guide lines.

I was curious how it tasted and by all means it's a nice drop even now. Definitely approachable now and improved after letting it breath for a couple of hours. Will I be popping open the other bottles say in the next 2-3 years? More than likely not.

Sounds like it will be a sell out this year.

Yours arrived yet?

Nope, but they rung to discuss.

Didn't get everything, but I am happy with that. I did spend <<censored>> bucks on a Saturday afternoon a few weekends ago, so a trimming of my allocation is okay.
