Wendouree allocations and general discussion

Nope, but they rung to discuss.

Didn't get everything, but I am happy with that. I did spend <<censored>> bucks a few weekends ago, so a trimming of my allocation is okay.

Didnt happen to ask about the sale of their business or any changes to allocations that my happen next year while on the phone?

(mentioned up thread)

All 5 of my requested boxes made an appearance at the in-laws today; I'm a very happy lady who will be even happier when they come home to me tomorrow night :D

I thought about that after I hung up. But I do have their number now.

FWIW, she made reference to my allocation for "next year", so read into that what you may.

Given what is known about how the system works, I am not sure why you wouldn't order everything you wanted the first time around?

For those following - I knew my form was late so I scribbled a note along the lines of "please call me if something is unavailable so I can fill up a "case" (of 6) with something else subject to availability".

As posted by afro, it seems the Shiraz Malbec is in greater supply, so I "rounded up" my order of it to make a clean case of 6.

I was very glad they did call. Great customer service, and although I missed some of my preferences, I am glad that I could get a few extra Shiraz Malbec and therefore have a better shipping cost per bottle. I am not sure if this is special or if you just have to ask nicely.

Also, given these wines are really to drink in 15-20 years, if you miss out this year, there is always next year.

Received my allocations today - 6 x Cav; 6 x C/MB and 3 x S/MB. Admittedly I can't actually remember what I ordered but I would have definitely put down for 6 shiraz so they must be in shorter supply.

Note: I have been on the mailing list for about 9 years now and have a red crayon mark on my order form.

Sorry to hear you missed out on the Shiraz

So I've sent them another letter to see if I could order more...nope sorry sir all sold out.

I did ask them if the vineyard has been sold or on the market and the according to them, no not sold or on offer either. All good for 2017 and will ask for more boxes in advance

I'm not sure that's true any more, the style has changed a bit in the last 5 years or so and they are more approachable when young, although still made with extended cellaring in mind. The shiraz blends have been drinking well from 5-6 years for many years now, and only the Cabernets really demand extended cellaring time to show their best these days.

Or maybe that's wishful thinking as I may not have 20 years left to see how they go.

Got my full allocation charged yesterday, too. Rumours afoot that the winery will be sold next year, leading to a big shakeup (and massive reduction in allocations - with only black signature members receiving a mixed 6 pack, and everyone else out). Let's hope not!

Did you hear this from the horses mouth?

No. A longstanding Wendouree customer and member of the AusWine forum. I am hoping it's not true.

The same person who said this year's allocation method will be different to past years...was hoping someone else besides that person might have a bit more news/inside gossip.

Has anyone heard anymore about Wendouree being sold?

Nothing at all, which is strange if anything significant has happened as I have a good friend who knows Tony and Lita Brady very well.

Following the exchange above, I did subtly fish around for some news when I visited Ashton Hills winery and chatted to Stephen George's righthand person awhile back, but he didn't seem to know anything about it (or if he did, didn't want to share). So fingers crossed that this year's allocation progresses as per normal.

I tried my first Wendouree wine at Wozza's 21st last Friday - man was it unique/funky/strange..... Not recognisable as a Cab Sauv to me. I have to assume it was bottle variation, not the norm?

Very polite, Steady.

I thought it was undrinkable. In fact, I didn't finish it. The aniseed and eucalyptus were so powerful and so jarring against one another. Apart from the smell and taste (!), the wine had good structure.

I do have a second bottle. But given the first bottle we had. I am torn between chucking it back on Langtons or stashing it away for a very long time.
