Wendouree allocations and general discussion

1st time on mailing list- received x6 shiraz malbec (was expecting to get nothing). Is it worth popping one now to try out or best to wait? Thanks
Don't do it is my advice. It would be a significant mistake. Wait 5 yrs. For the most part Wendouree wines are NOT made for immediate consumption.

But then again I've heard some like to mix Coke and red wine:

Well you got 6 !! why not try one.. so much about wine is personal preference. Yes with a few years it will change but why not enjoy the journey and give one a go

I really enjoy wines around the 10yr mark ( give or take ) but I certainly have tried many of them along the way.

I would have no hesitation in opening one. Give it some good aeration and I think you'll find it rather approachable. Then you can gauge its progress over the last 5 bottles. I know people that have opened a number of the 2016s (Cab/Mal, Mal and Cab) and they've all commented about how approachable they are - 2-3 hours in a decanter is a good starting point, or a vigorous double decant.

I received a letter saying that unfortunately they were unable to fill any part of my order as stock has run out. Oh well, first year on the list, there's always next year.

So I’ve bought a corked bottle of 1997 Shiraz off Langton’s, sent Wendouree a letter with pics providing feedback and just got an Aussie Post text saying I’ve got a delivery from a certain AP Briks Wendouree scheduled for tomorrow.

They certainly don’t need to warrant anything given I’ve sourced it on the open market and certainly beyond their control how it was cellared prior to being resold.

A small note and a bottle of 2010 Shiraz Mataro turned up. Hey I wasn’t expecting anything to be honest.

it's not a replacement per se but more like thanks for your feedback, oh here's little something for your past patronage...

let's hope this hasn't done me a disservice next July

Wendouree is on the Shop Small list. I wonder if anyone have tried prepaying for next year’s orders while taking advantage of the Shop Small credit.

Seems strange given that they do not have a cellar door.

I believe AmEx fund the shop small credits, so it's a case of businesses being included (or not) based on a set of criteria. It's likely Wendouree satisfy the criteria, although nobody can actually buy from them during the promotional period.

I've always found it amusing that Wendouree takes AMEX. Sadly, $10 wouldn't cover much of my annual buying. However, I do tend to take a trip out to the Clare during Shop Small - lots of the wineries there accept AMEX, and it comes in handy when buying up single bottles during cellar door visits.

With the Rockford thread firing up and the year going at an alarming pace my mind turns here...

Still quite a few months to go before Wendouree offerings available.

Wendouree prices have increased moderately over the last few years and I think they could always charge more than they currently do and still sell the same stock. To their credit, Wendouree have focused on the wine rather than the profit.

The same cannot be said for Rockford. Lucky for me I've never rated their wines highly and have always thought Rockford was over valued and over hyped, so could care less about price increases and/or stock availability :)
