Wendouree allocations and general discussion

Got my letter today (Victoria inner city) and sent back pronto. Last year was terrible.. here's to hoping a better pick this year.

Separately I just did a stock take from the 2012 vintages when I joined the mailing list up to 2017 and counted 68 bottles in cellar... may need to do some vertical or horizontal tasting but not sure if they are too young... any thoughts anyone? I haven't tried any of them yet but conscious that my cellar space is at 80% capacity...

I've opened a few from 2013, 2014 and 2015.
I wouldn't hesitate looking at either of the 2013 Shiraz Malbec, 2014 Shiraz Mataro, 2014 Malbec or 2014 Cabernet. Give them a good decent decant before hand.

So 1 case of everything?

I don't order full cases, a mix of everything.

I had a ‘14 Malbec less than 2 weeks ago, very nice. Took the cap off in the morning ~8 hours before starting to consume

I've just spent the last hour reading every post in this thread as I've been tossing up whether or not to add Wendouree to the wines that I collect each year. Although the wine sounds great, and I've had a few myself that have varied from average to fantastic, it's so off putting to hear the stories of such an obscure, opaque allocation process that I can't bring myself to write the letter.

Dr Ralph how you are not absolutely fuming I can't even begin to understand (maybe you are). Same for others that have seemingly fallen foul of an archaic allocation system (e.g. penegal). Very off-putting and I won't be applying for the mailing list - thanks to all the participants for an interesting thread.

Im a lowly red Crayon but got a good varied case last year, my form arrived this year blank? eeeeikkkkk, not sure is it something ive said Dr ralph, I wasnt heavy on the straight varities either and did 2 cases this year of mixed wine. Im in QLD. Lucky for me I get my full Sami Odi allocation each year!!!! still early days perhaps but the lack of crayon was concerning

I've given up trying to understand the vagaries of how Wendouree decide to allocate their product.

I would say that I think it a poor, non transparent system and that they know of this but just don't care.

Ultimately I think this does damage their reputation (or at the very least prevents their brand from growing and gaining the recognition that it deserves). But again, I think that they just don't care. And perhaps why should they? They do sell out of pretty much all of their wines every year.

Having said that, appears from my credit card being debited that I'm on for a full case of everything this year, other than the Muscat, which I did not order.

I've been buying since the 2009 vintage and so far never missed out, red crayon. Sent my letter back the day after I received it (3 July) but no credit card charge for me yet. Called them yesterday to ask if my order was received but had to leave a message.

Not looking promising...

I'm in Vic. Last year my credit card was billed on August 8 and I got almost everything I asked for. I haven't been billed yet for this year but would give it another week or two before thinking I may have missed out.

It sounds like the only ones processed so far are SA residents and black initials. I'm not worried yet but I did see a post on winefront that someone with black initials was only receiving 18 of the 24 bottles ordered I think.

I am red crayon and just working on the assumption that if I get 50% or more of my order I'm content given the low yielding vintage.

If you have a look at my previous messages, you'll note that loyalty means nothing to them. It's a complete lottery.

This is definitely not correct.

Are there people with red crayons who aren't SA based that have already received their orders?

Anyway, it still feels earlyish given everything going on and not time to be worried for another couple of weeks.

Don’t think Im much help here but red crayon, metro Vic, nothing so far. I’ve gone on a spending spree instead to make most of the 30% price drop in the Bordeaux en primeur and got a bottle of Lafite. 🥳

I'm SA, red crayon.

think my query is based around, was red crayon, ordered well , and then new mailer came out with blank?? Might just be an oversight and honest mistake. from memory I didnt get my CC debited until maybe 10th -12th Aug in QLD. So might be another week or two.

how good is the tension of Wendouree season by the way ! its like waiting to see if you got accepted into college or waiting to see if your partner who has been sent off to war has written you back. Bless the bradys
