Wendouree allocations and general discussion

Re: Wendouree 2016 allocations

Indeed - spoke to them a few weeks ago to change address - indicated full spread of wines + the muscat

Also indicated that the 16 could be one for the ages when released!

When are letters normally sent again? need to clean out the credit card!

Expect the letter in June/July. The exact time does vary in different years.

Re: Wendouree 2016 allocations

Short of visiting them in Clare Valley, how do you get on their mailing list?

You can't visit them. They don't have a cellar door. They sell by mail order only to people on their mailing list.

I didn't ask - hoping to go there next week - will let you know

I also didn't think you could visit - is there a way for the general public to visit, or is it just for some special members....?

They do not have a cellar door that I am aware of - unless it has opened in the last couple of months. But I doubt this as the infrastructure they have couldn't support a cellar door.

FYI:

"There is no Wendouree cellar door. No Wendouree website. No distribution network, marketing department, salespeople. Nothing. Not even an email address. To communicate with the Bradys you need to either call or write a letter. "

I have visited twice before, accompanying a friend who was well known to the Bradys, and was very privileged to taste some of their much older wines.

I've had a few PM's asking me for info and tips on how to get some Wendouree, since it's a subscription only market (other than anything available in the secondary market). There's no secret. You just need to ask nicely and have some patience :)

For those hoping to get on the mailing list see messages #3 and #5.

But just don't hope to get much if anything in your first year.

Yep DrR, patience, took me three years to get an allocation and seven vintages in, get my dozen each year, even if I have to eat mince for a month.

Re: Wendouree 2016 allocations

I've only been on the list for 2 years and got almost everything I asked for last year. Didn't get any straight shiraz or malbec the first year but, honestly, I think the blends are where it's at with these wines. More approachable now, that's for sure.

I agree with you. Love the blends.

But the secondary market loves the Shiraz more! Hence why there is a 6 bottle limit and why the price in the secondary market for the Shiraz is often over $100 a bottle.

Re: Wendouree 2016 allocations

So I had the pleasure of a visit with Wendouree, amidst drizzling rain. It is a beautiful part of the world

Mailing list is a few weeks of, will be the usual suspects + a vintaged (not blend) muscat for the first time in a while - seems to be a bit of it too - indication was that amount was similar to previous years

Once again reiterated how good the 16 vintage was - going to be a cracker and significantly up in volume - as is the rest of the Clare Valley

Those wanting to get on the list - I would be trying now

Re: Wendouree 2016 allocations

Jealous.

Out of interest did they say anything about the 2014 wines?

Re: Wendouree 2016 allocations

They seemed quite happy with the 14s - i didnt push the questions tho

Feels a bit like asking your mother if her pavlova is good...

Goal of getting a mate on the list was achieved tho!

Generally speaking, most things I've read suggest the Clare had a solid but unspectacular vintage. Reds better than whites.
