Question is how long is the wait... we have written in but don't expect anything anytime soon. I actually would just want to pay for a masterclass to gauge whether we will enjoy the wines.

Depends on the vintage.

If you check this thread, previously people have received allocations in their first year. Although currently, supply is tight. But if you don't try you can't begin the wait.

A single bottle doesn't really give me that view, nor does it help me understand whether I'll like it with some bottle age.

However, we have tried to buy some bottles mainly at auction but the prices creep beyond where I'll pay.

So will just wait and see.

The thread title is "Wendouree allocations and general discussion", so please do list sources and prices. Given the limited allocations, I find it very interesting that there are 'plenty floating around'. Every time I look at prices, especially at auction, they are much higher than issue price.

I'm always happy to buy more Wendouree at close to issue price or at 'reasonable' prices. So please provide some specific examples.

Someone mentioned East End Cellars. A quick google search turned up numerous options at $100+. Close to issue price will always be unrealistic for such a sought after wine unfortunately.

It's either buy a single bottle and see if you like it, stylistically the varietals are pretty similar, or wait until you receive an allocation. However you still won't know if you like it until you've tried it though you could easily sell them if you didn't.

I'd never tasted it prior to buying my first allocation but from what I'd heard and read I expected they'd suit my taste. I've certainly not regretted it!

I got an email today from Wine Culture in Sydney - they are selling off a bunch of Wendouree 2015-2017 (all varietals except straight Shiraz) that they acquired from somewhere. $149 a bottle though!

Search at East end Cellars gets me circa $150 a bottle. Even up to $400 a bottle. Given this is close to double the issue price it's hardly 'reasonable': Search results for: 'Wendouree'

I'd still be interested in where you are seeing 'plenty' at reasonable prices. So far you haven't provided one example.

That's the sort of price I'd expect. This wine is limited release and hard to find in any resonable quantity. The secondary market is very strong.

Knowing what the issue prices are, $150 a bottle is definitely not what I would call 'reasonable', but is not uncommon, when you can find stock (which is definitely not 'plentiful'):

Yep they posted +100 well cellared bottles on instagram today, but pricing is steep as expected.

Agree with Dr Ralph. I'm not sure ~300% markup qualifies as 'reasonable'.

My suggestion was to buy a bottle to try so $90 to me seems pretty "reasonable" compared to dropping $300 plus on 6 wines that you might not like. You either want to try it or you don't.

To me $120 or so is reasonable for the quality and I'd pay that for a bottle every now and then if I wasn't on the list. People seem happy to buy things like RWT, Quintet, various Standish and Henschkes and plenty more for that price and I'd have no hesitation in holding Wendourees in that class of wine. I get that it's well above the offering price but that's only because the Brady's haven't gone all Penfolds and jacked up prices, because they could have and they'd still sell out.

Anyway, I'm not fussed if they don't join the list, more for me.

I'd suggest you start with a Shiraz blend from a good vintage 10+ years old to see if you like the style. Can find at reasonable prices at auctions such as MW Wines, wickman oddbins etc.
